Well.
I did a lot of vouching for a grinder mode in Halo 2.
But the idea came late.
Time to get things in early.

They have modes like this in Brothers in Arms 2, Mech Assault, Ghost Recon, etc.
Preferably online +coop.

Defense against waves of AI opponents to see how long you can last.
In a bunker, on top of a hill, in a fort.
Hours of legendary standoffs and stories waiting to be had.

It would even fit in on IGN's wishlist for Halo 3.

7. The Battle On Earth Should Be Massive and Devastating
If the next Halo linearly follows Halo 2 and it does, in fact, take place on Earth, the game should transport players all across the globe in a wide variety of fights. We would love to see the fully fledged Earth war appear in African jungles, Louisiana swamps, and cosmopolitan centers like New York, Tokyo, Paris, and Sydney. It should go to far-out places like the Rocky Mountains, the volcanoes of Hawaii, and even in the snowy exteriors of Antarctica. Some of the best levels in Halo 2 took place on Earth, and we'd like to see more. In that light, the next Halo should include storming mad Covenant warriors slaughtering innocent civilians followed by the spread of the Flood on Earth, followed by the Covenant teaming up with the humans to destroy the Flood once and for all. Just a little demand, nothing big.

Full List

Now there is no way that MC could find himself in so many different places on the earth and still follow a structured storyline. With grinder mode, MC can fight in all those different areas. Fight off wave and wave of covenant in jungles, swamps, cities, snow fields, mountains, volcanos.

Why not just add normal Co-op online instead?

That mode is completely awesome in GRAW, so yes I think it could possibly work for Halo. Maybe defending a downed pelican? Who knows....not a single player level though, doesn't seem right.

Xbox live Gametag: Echo090

Sounds fun, especially for practicing... (can't wait to get in on the halo 3 online circuit).
And yea, online coop is a MUST!

i got it! this could even be a matchmakeing type where there are certain levels of dificulty 50 to be precise each level can be completly diffrent and you and your friends can go in on live and face massive AI as you bunker on a mountain or on top of a sky scraper ( in this case you would have to have banshees on top of scraper and turrets and rocket turrets to fend of the hords of covie ships that are flying at you. could you imagine that! and of course the 50 is for the level of dificulty and every time you beat a lvl your rank goes up in that matchmakeing to show your skill, is it just me or is it not fair that MC has to do all the chaseing its time for the covies and flood to come after us! hence the covies being on earth!

I didn't ever really think of it as a matchmaking option.
It'd be possible, but extremely complicated

It could work, I guess. It shouldn't be one of Bungie's biggest concerns for a gameplay mode though I don't think. That's for Bungie to decide though, not a mortal such as I.
