Subject: Passive Equipment

You know how Overshield and Camo powerups do not require any button presses from the user to function? You walk over the power up and it modifies your attributes.

What if there was a class of equipment that expanded upon this idea? Things you pick up from the map, that require no input from the user, that modify the user's attributes in some way.

Examples:

Gravity Boots- allow the user to run up walls if the user has enough momentum

Energy Bayonet- increases the distance of the user's melee lunge, damage is not modified

The theme I am going for are things that attach to your Spartan or his weapon. Do you have any ideas for Passive Equipment?

Passive? Bayonet? Lol?

The only thing passive that is passive is being able to change how your Spartan looks like, nothing literally hinders nor helps either team in the armoury.

Melee lunge is already ridiculous. Let's not have Commando distances thanks.

Passive in the sense that the user does not have to press any buttons like H3 Equipment or Reach Armor Abilities. Can you contribute anything more than your failed attempt to snark?

Notice: I am not going to be rude to posters who attempt to contribute something to the thread rather than attempting to make themselves look cool on an internet video game forum.

The Energy Sword is a one-per-map, highly contested item. The Energy Bayonet would not be such a highly contested item and might even spawn inside each team's base for one player per team to use.

Call what I typed what you want, your ideas (in particular the bayonet) are horrible and would break the game further, such as your bayonet idea - Halo Reach already has an immense lunge distance as it is.

*edit* wtf? I'm not "attempting" to look cool. I AM cool, and my ego is unbreakable. I kid, c'mon man trying to argue with someone and say that they're uncool for just posting what they think about your crappy ideas? Haha! Hilarious.

If I attempted to say Sprint should be a default movement capability I'm sure I would catch hate for it. I am going out on a limb and suggesting ideas that most people wouldn't even suggest due to the low intelligence levels and high hate levels here. If you don't like the ideas, say you don't like them AND WHY YOU DON'T LIKE THEM. The response "lolno" never helped develop an idea. Please don't be a typical b-tard.

I did, please read more carefully in the future, but okay I'll type it again just for you, a very special person: Reach has a melee lunge distance that is almost more than ridiculous as it is, your idea would BREAK THE GAMEPLAY.

*edit* Besides for god's sake, the Energy Sword does not need more counters - It's melee deflect counter is more than enough (if not too much) already.

I hope you won't derp again. Please don't. I'll also ignore your "b-tard" comment due to how idiotic it is for your sake.

So what you are attempting to articulate is that default melee distance is long enough so don't give anything that will increase it? All you said was "it would break the game even further" which I do not know the meaning of. Thank you for clarifying your opinion to some extent.

What I have to ask you is: Does the Energy Sword "break the game"?

Nope, in fact the game broke the Energy Sword - It was fine from Halo 2 to Halo 3, but in Reach there has been an added counter to the mechanics of the melee weapon where if you melee someone who tries to lunge at you (providing you do it at the right time that is), you effectively counter what should have been a one-hit-kill for the player who was using the Energy Sword, thus ruining the whole prospect of a "power weapon" - There are no counters to other power weapons, save for Armour Lock which is unbalanced to crap due to the fact that it counters literally everything, making a player invincible for 5-6 seconds, and even bouncing rockets back to the players who fired those rounds into the Armour Locker.

So let's say normal melee was a 3 hit kill. Would the Energy Bayonet break the game more than the TU Energy Sword? I just don't understand how if an unblockable, one-hit-kill Energy Sword is not game breaking how a 3-hit-kill Energy Bayonet is.

Seriously? People still attempt to double, or triple melee. And regardless if I hosed someone down with an Assault Rifle, and then melee'd them, I'd be able to do it from a greater distance which is ridiculous because I shouldn't be able to use my fists like bullets.

Why the hell are you even arguing your "point"? Can't you see that what you propose to implement to the game would end up ruining the gameplay?

  • 12.21.2011 12:16 AM PDT

Sorry. Didn't realize I was talking to experts on what would "ruin gameplay". The point of this thread was to have people give their ideas for their own version of passive equipment. You chose to attack one of the EXAMPLES I gave just to give people an idea of what I meant.

Feel free to not have a creative cell in your body and just hate on others' ideas.

I attacked it in general because it would be a terrible idea, as Reach has enough noob friendly skill-assists as it is.

And if I were to have a "passive" equipment idea? Well then it would most likely be something that applies to everyone in the game, as a "mutator" or "rule changer", for example one such "mutator" would decrease the explosive damage of all grenades, but let the EMP stay as it is, effectively making players use their grenades more like an assist for their weapons instead of weapons themselves.

That's not equipment though. That's a custom game modifier. What I am asking you to come up with are:

-items you pick up from the map
-items that modify your Spartan's attributes
-items you lose when you die

What you are suggesting is akin to turning up Damage Resistance for everyone in the game which is not Equipment at all.

Reducing grenade's damage output does not equal turning up the damage resistance for everyone, as other weapons would still deal out the same amount of damage. The only thing that changes would be the grenades.

But okay whatever, you're arguing about what modifier is and what it shouldn't be that's okay. I'll just let this thread die now, there really isn't anything good to discuss about that won't make Reach more like Call of Duty with it's perks.

What is so hard to understand? Passive Equipment? Equipment that gives the user an advantage, that he loses when he dies, that must be picked up off the map, that requires no button presses from the user.

I think you are over complicating the topic at hand due to your inability to be creative yourself. Feel free to continue to be an ignorant hater with no redeemable qualities.

Can I have a pursuit warthog? (red&blue flashing lights, siren, black and white paint job, gull-wing doors, no turret but a truckbed cap where the turret assembly should be, and the ability to arrest players :)

A police falcon would be great as well... (Black&white paint job, flashing red & blue lights on the wing struts and tail, no turrets and doors that open and close similar to the republic gunships in Star Wars. Kick... Ass.)

Police pelican would be cool too!!!

You do realize that wearing the security chest plate gives you +1 grenade carrying capacity for each grenade right?

Although you are attempting to troll, you are the first person to suggest a unique "Passive Equipment" ability. Ill call it "Satchel". It allows you to carry one extra grenade of each type. Thank you for your input.

So I post an idea and you immediately turn it down because it doesn't follow what you think it should be and that it's not good enough.

You know, when someone rage quits a thread, it is usually good etiquette for them not to return for more than a half hour. If you have something constructive to say then say it. If not, please take your negative energy elsewhere before I have to challenge you to a 1v1 where the loser never posts again.
