Subject: Passive Equipment

Now that you have had some time to think, is there any characteristic that you could modify to give the user an advantage?

Movement speed
jump height
damage
rate of fire
Reload time
weapon switch time
Gravity
radar
shields
knowledge
communications
Vision
sound

I'm just saying, passive abilities are awful, and the "Fall damage" thing is from Crysis and Black Ops

..."Because every gameplay feature is totally a ripoff of some other game."

I wasn't even thinking about Crysis when I typed that. :/

But anyway, how about an ability that, when you shoot somebody, their screen goes all static-y, and the more they get shot the more it blacks out? For example, if you get a few shots off with an AR, their screen doesn't change much, but if they get shot by a sniper, they're practically blind.

Just a thought.

The visual que of a user possessing this equipment could be an electric charging device attached to the weapon. The bullets are "charged" and shock the enemy on impact, causing no extra damage, but distorting the target's vision. Cool.

"Like an X".

It doesn't have to be original. No aspect of Halo's gameplay is "original", but nobody complains about that.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I actually think that's a good idea, just really hard to implement in any meaningful way that isn't really stupid.

Ah, sorry. I'm kind of in a pissy mood today, so I sort of lashed out there. :c

Quantum Gloves - eliminates the delay between switching weapons. Your shouldered weapon teleports into your hand immediately like how you look whenever you switch weapons in GTA.

This could tie into armor pieces having an actual effect.

Some kind of increased ammunition capacity, like a pouch somewhere on the armor.

I always use the trauma kit thing; it would be interesting if it actually had a function or something.

But that would be sorta' dumb, and go against the "Even-spawns" thing Halo has going on, even with loadouts

Knee Pads (name is a work in progress) - eliminate fall damage

What I'm thinking is, you start out with the usual amount of ammo, but then you can, say, pick up one more mag than usual if you find another of the weapon you're carrying.

A damage buffer mixed with an overshield, to make it less bad :3

^That might pose a problem with power weapon ammo

What about something that allows you to carry a third weapon?

There was a glitch for that In Halo 2; it was abused to no end

  • 12.21.2011 2:55 PM PDT

Girdle - increased resistance to body shots

  • 12.21.2011 3:00 PM PDT

Repulsor - attaches to the forearm, knocks enemies backward about a mongoose length when meleed

  • 12.21.2011 3:09 PM PDT

Interceptor - you hear enemy voice comms as if you were on their team, when you talk your team hears you but you can't hear them anymore, appears as a device attached to the side of the helmet like the pre order recon helmet with the cell phone on the side

Gray socks are best socks. White is second, black third. Every other sock color is simply horrible.

The only passive device is Gravity Boots, and they're not even a good idea. A Bayonet/extended melee range is not passive.

Clearly, you don't know what passive means.

The idea is, the abilities discussed are always on, whether you want them to be or not. It means there isn't a button you press for them to activate, they're always in effect. Thus, it's passive.

Besides, Jump Boots were amazing in Unreal Tournament.

You know how Overshield and Camo powerups do not require any button presses from the user to function? You walk over the power up and it modifies your attributes.

What if there was a class of equipment that expanded upon this idea? Things you pick up from the map, that require no input from the user, that modify the user's attributes in some way.

Examples:

Gravity Boots- allow the user to run up walls if the user has enough momentum

Energy Bayonet- increases the distance of the user's melee lunge, damage is not modified

The theme I am going for are things that attach to your Spartan or his weapon. Do you have any ideas for Passive Equipment?

What is the Deal with the community lately? Every other thread I read the OP suggests gravity boots.
