So in Halo 2, the weapon in the next cutscene is the one that you were using right before it. Did Bungie do that for any other of their games? Some people say that Bungie didn't put very much effort into this game, but I kind of feel like this would take alot of work to put almost every single weapon in all of the cutscenes.

Since when do people say that Bungie didn't put effort into Halo 2?

Bungie poured the fiber of their being out into all the Halo games and it's pretty apparent.

Bungie said that it regrets putting so much effort in halo 2...
Not, not putting effort at all.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Halo was a terribly worked on game. Bungie had to deal with the hype a sequel to Halo CE, one of the best games in existance, a game that had spawned a new generation of games, changed the industry, and pretty much saved a genre and revolutionized it.

Of course Bungie worked their asses of on Halo 2 to not disappoint, and they did not. They revolutionized online gaming.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Cutscenes in Halo games (except wars) aren't pre-rendered. This is why you can see vehicles were you left them, for example. (I once parked a hog on the crashed pelican in Tsavo highway. Looked hilarious in the cutscene.) Such stuff is the cause of videos on youtube about Halo CE, where MC gets killed at the beginning of the cutscene. In Halo 2, there just wasn't "Chief has to have this weapon in the cutscene"-thing, so the game puts the gun you had in the cutscene. (In halo 3, he has MA5C almost all the time.)

+1 for you good sir.

I remember they said Halo 2 was like an abortion. They wanted to do so much more with it but M$ didn't give them enough time to finish.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

I think they did it for Halo 3: ODST, and a little bit of Reach. but only a little bit.

I remember this too. I wish they would have been able to have another year to make it the way they wanted it. But oh well, game was a succsess anyways.

Infection in Halo 3 isn't zombie killing; it's ethnic cleansing. Have you ever noticed that these "zombies" are just black Spartans?

It actually doesn't take a lot of effort. The character models never change - the Master Chief is just posed to be carrying a two-handed weapon and the skins for all of the weapons that fit that pose can be slotted into the scene. Since he never fires his gun when this technique is being used, it's not a problem if he's carrying a shotgun or a battle rifle.

But there's a problem. What if you enter the cutscene carrying two weapons that simply cannot be used? The game has to default to something that will fit.

Which is more jarring for the player? When the Master Chief always wields an assault rifle in cutscenes, even if you weren't carrying one or if you're used to the game tracking what you're carrying and then it suddenly switches to an assault rifle when you weren't carrying one? If I had to guess, I'd say that's why they never continued with it. Re-building the cutscene several times over so that the Master Chief can carry every weapon would be too costly and too time-consuming for such a little payoff.

But if you skipped the cutscene your weapons reverted to the default ones though. I remember finishing Delta Halo with a Sniper and Rocket, skipping the cutscene and ending up with a Beam rifle and whatever else you got.
