My top question has to do with the way the auto-select of the server for Live games works... Does the algorithm simply go by ping values, or does it also notice when some of the players are on a LAN (by noticing that the IP addresses are all on the same subnet)?
Reason for asking is, if the algorithm is more likely to select one of several machines on a LAN as the server, and pings between machines on that LAN were minimized as a result, this might encourage folks to still LAN up before going online (as opposed to staying in their homes). I hope this question is clear... to summarize:
Will there be any advantage, lag-wise, to playing as a team on a LAN connected to Live, versus playing as a team with individual Live connections?
Actually, I'm now wondering whether we can even connect a LAN to Live... perhaps we can only connect a single XBox to Live? If so, this questions' moot. Moot moot moot!
Other questions (that I *won't* try to answer myself ;-)
- We've heard that several "features", including the backpack-reload and the powerup multi-pickup, have been "fixed" at H2. What about the "feature" where, if you fall from a great height but land on a sufficiently steep slope, you sustain less damage... is that ability still present?
- Can you share with us a "power map" for the weapons? That is, something that describes for us the difference in effectiveness of shooting someone in the chest with a shotgun, vs. shooting him in the head with the same, vs. other weapons, and how the effect falls off at distance? (Note to forum-readers: if this question isn't answered, and I'd be surprised if it were, then perhaps this would be a good community project? :-)
Many thanks to Bungie for being exactly what they are, and for Microsoft, for being their benefactor, regardless of the motivations.
