Subject: Prophet of Truth.

I was looking back on the novels and the games released so far, i feel that The Prophet of Truth brought on his own death while most likely knowing it would happen.

If i remember from the Halo novel Contact Harvest, while the Prophet is still known as the Minister of Foritude. He mentions to himself that while the grunt rebellion could destabilize the Covenant, a rebellion from the Elites could shatter it.However much later on during the events of Halo 2 he replaces the Elites with the Brutes as the protectors of the Prophets, which even he hasd to know would cause some resentment and possible rebellion among them, yet he did it anyway and in my opinion killed himself in that momentAfter He did this the Humans started to really fight back as in part the Covenant lost its main fighters where beforehand humanity's destruction was assured..Knowing that the elites are based from pride and honour, they rebelled and the Prophet shoould have heeded his own words from Harvest. It might have saved his life.

Well slap my balls and call me Santa, I've got lizard tits!

I think I love you!

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

Yes, he did bring about his own death.

The Prophet was caught up in his religious ego and didn't really focus on what was important: family.

We should know better, because we are better.

It has been theorized by some members here that Truth is a bit crazy. I agree.

The Great Schism was really just so the protagonists could win. Without it the UNSC would have been stomped. It does not get any deeper than that.

An old friend.

He was insane. He and the other prophets knew from questioning monitors that humans were the inheritors of everything Forerunner.

The monitors proved their entire religion wrong. Instead of embracing humans they thought... let's just wipe them out.

It was also for this particular reason that John-117 was able to escape in one piece. Had there been no form of uprising going on at the time, he wouldn't have made it past the brig.

  • 01.04.2012 9:54 AM PDT

Why are you here?

I think at first he thought that it would screw him over, but then he saw the over-zealous Brutes as a failsafe, and thought they could stop the Elites when he kicked them out.

I guess being naive and too power hungry helped to.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Truth was a fool, clearly. I have no idea why he would replace the elites with brutes, elites are much better in the role then brutes, and ordering them all executed obviously wasn't going to go over to well.

Forget about that, if it wasn't for Truth, John would have been killed by the reinforcements sent to defend Regret. He was the one that heeded an order to stop the Phantoms mid way.

He believes himself a God all the way down to the moment he dies.

It's not a theory, he is crazy.

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

As said by a Bungie Employee in the "At Journey's End" ViDoc for Halo 3: "The keys for the Doomsday machine are at the hands of a mad man who thinks its somekind of religious gateway."

I don't think his plan was that crazy. Its obvious he was power hungry, he wanted to be the sole leader of the covenant and become a god. I think he felt the elites wouldn't let him be the sole leader of the covenant so he made a plan to kick them out of the covenant. He replaced them with a stronger and dumber race, and then killed the entire council, and attempted to kill the arbiter. Had the arbiter died, the elites would have been leaderless and I think they would have lost. With the elites out of the picture, he'd be able to do whatever he wanted. Yes, he brought about his own death, but its because his plan failed, not because he's crazy.

Halo could've been so much better if its antagonists weren't so dumb and incompetent.

That was anything but dumb (at least in the sense of his plan), think about it...John kills Regret, Truth blames it on the Elites, Brutes replace Elites, Truth gets to rule the Covenant as a god. Obviously it didn't end up like that, but that was because the next to impossible meeting the Gravemind and John/The Arbiter had.
