Heya fellas.

I'm sure all of you have seen the "ZB Beta" playlist, which focuses on no recoil effects for the Designated Marksman's Rifle.

Bottom-Line-Up-Front: I hate zero-bloom.

Recoil affects all weapons, in real life and generally, in many weapons in Halo: Reach. It should be kept as such. As it stands now, the DMR takes some relative skill in order to use effectively, especially at ranges.

With zero-bloom, people will simply be able to hammer on the trigger, during which all they have to do is keep the reticle lined up on the target. Not exactly challenging, and not exactly well-balanced for the game itself.

My opinion? Drop zero-bloom, otherwise, the DMR will lose its luster, and it will take near zero skill in order to operate effectively.

"Zero-bloom, zero skill," perhaps.

Recoil affects all weapons, in real life

1. This is a science fiction game based in the future, realism should not be in it.

2. I doubt you have ever even picked up a gun in real life, although all guns have recoil (some have next to none though).

3. Recoil =/= bloom.

Two makes there more than speakers.

Real life =/= good gameplay mechanic.

  • 12.21.2011 12:15 PM PDT

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Some people prefer the sci-fi genre over some COD-type shooter.
Plus, bloom was nonexistent before Reach.

ZB = Zero skill eh?.

Seems like it's working to me.

  • 12.21.2011 12:28 PM PDT

So did you come to this conclusion after 1 game? 1 game in which you went 7 and 14? Why am I not surprised by your opinion?

I'll also just assume you came to this conclusion after getting worked in Halo 3 and found out that bloom makes you better.

Want a cool clan? Join FRAG!

Want a war sim? The best war sim in Halo, Forerunner Conflict.

I agree with this statement. It is one of the core reasons why I despise bloom in all games.

Let me ask you this. When you shoot a REAL gun, the bullet goes EXACTLY where the barrel is pointed, right? And when you shoot fast it gets harder to control the gun, but the bullet still goes exactly where the bullet is pointed, right? It doesn't just shoot off on a random path just because you're firing fast, does it? Granted, it may seem entirely random to whoever's firing the gun, but the bullet's still going straight forward.

"Zero-bloom, zero skill," perhaps.
And to a certain extent, this is also a credible statement. While no bloom is better competitively than bloom, the slow speed and jump height of the players in default makes ZB more heavily focused on who sees who first. 85% works much better for default settings, but ZB is perfect for MLG and other fast paced gametypes.

People do this with bloom.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

I can already tell this is going to be bad...

Recoil affects all weapons, in real life and generally, in many weapons in Halo: Reach. It should be kept as such.

I thought this was a discussion about bloom? I'm going to assume you aren't incredibly stupid and simply meant to type bloom but had a mind fart.

THIS GAME IS NOT REAL LIFE. Battlefield and Call of Duty are where all the people who get boners over pseudo-realistic gameplay. Not Halo. Halo used to be king of the friggin mountain, and back then it didn't have bloom.

As it stands now, the DMR takes some relative skill in order to use effectively, especially at ranges.

At range you can just pace your shots to kill someone, and it'll only take a little longer than with no bloom... But at medium-close range, there is 0% skill. I've killed plenty of players I know to be better than me because I spam dat trigger. Whenever I use the DMR I just pull that trigger as fast as I can until one of the bullets fly towards their face. Really.

With zero-bloom, people will simply be able to hammer on the trigger, during which all they have to do is keep the reticle lined up on the target. Not exactly challenging, and not exactly well-balanced for the game itself.

Wait, so what you're saying is spamming the trigger and aiming at the same time is HARDER than spamming the trigger and praying for a headshot?

My opinion? Drop zero-bloom, otherwise, the DMR will lose its luster, and it will take near zero skill in order to operate effectively.

In my opinion the sky is really red, but the government changes it somehow to lie to the public.

"Zero-bloom, zero skill," perhaps.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

fear me, for i am pro sauce

zero bloom in all slayer gametypes i say, i hate getting killed because i pace my shots to combat bloom and get killed in 5-6 shots by some spammer from across the map

  • 12.21.2011 2:59 PM PDT

i'm pretty sure a 7 foot tall, 1000 pound, steroid pumped super soldier could hold his gun straight

Bungie changed Halo when they added bloom. No other Halo predecessor had it Why add it now? I like it and it has actually brought me back to playing Reach. Ive been playing CoD cuz I hated the way they changed Halo so much. Jetpacks? Armor Lock? BLOOM? Come on. Its not Halo. ZB is just like previous Halo games. The way that changed an industry.
