That's not an answer to the OP's question.

OT: Yes, of course he deserved it. He manipulated the Chief in Halo, killed SGT Johnson in Halo 3 and almost killed the Chief and the Arbiter in Halo 3 as well.

That's because they were going to destroy his installation. They did destroy his installation.

But before all that he manipulated the Chief still.

The OP's topic is stupid.

No 343 did not need to be killed for following protocol. Especially when the ring didn't need to be activated in the first place. Rushing to "The Dawn" and having the ship explode would have damaged the ring enough in it's unfinished state. They then could have taken a pelican to the portal and live happily ever after.

And if glassing is "Soo powerful" I don't understand why they didn't just blow the ring up from space anyway. Both the shadow of intent and the Dawn could have destroyed it from space easy. As much as people are trying to make 343 look like they have no idea what they are doing, all bungie really does is blow stuff up to save the time of explaining it.

Well that's just silly. This is a fictional universe we're discussing, but it doesn't give you an excuse to run around posting ludicrous rubbish.

Grey, if they just blew up Halo, it wouldn't have produced the same explosion effect that killed the Flood in the vicinity. If they blew it up, it would have just fallen apart like in Halo CE.

343 Guilty Spark thought Chief knew that things were getting real and -blam!- was about to hit the fan. I blame Chief for being ignorant.

What flood though? High charity was destroyed so that handled the flood on the ark. Cortana says the mind was trying to rebuild itself on the ring, thus the flood was on the ring.

So i don't understand why they didn't blow up the ring instead of unnecessarily lighting it and destroying the ark.

Wait, How did the Flood get to Halo even? Also, the Flood spread out when High Charity crashed on the Ark.

You answered your own question about the Flood.
And the ring "shook itself apart" because it hadn't fully developed thus destroying the ring and the Ark.

I didn't ask a question, all the flood were on halo thus there was no need for overkill.

No, the ring fired destroying itself and the ark. The ark would not be destroyed by an incomplete ring crashing into it.

Is this the part i go cry in a corner or pretend that i am suppose to be offended in some manner?I don't know which one you want me to do.

I am not "contradicting" anything. I am trying to understand why the ring was fired when it was over kill. if that is too much for you to understand then i won't apologize.

*sigh*

I'm going to break this down for you so you can understand it.
The Gravemind was "rebuilding" itself on the newly formed Installation 04 and there was no time to search for Halo's Control Room (which took days in Halo: CE) so the only option was to light the Halo ring.

The Halo ring never fired properly because it was new and undeveloped (as 343 GS pointed out in Halo 3 that it would take an extra 3 days before the ring can properly fire). So, the Halo ring exploded and to quote Cortana it "shook itself apart" thus destroying the Ark as well because it was too close to the Halo ring.

There, understand now?

Because escaping an exploding Halo on a Warthog is more exciting than pressing a button. Not to mention that we don't know if glassing would work on a Halo ring, or if some automatic defenses would boot up and retaliate.

It was too much of a risk. Far safer to destroy it internally. I also think that the firing of the Halo ring didn't just blow it up, but actually initiated a localised neutrino pulse too which destroyed all life in that sector.
