Chief should've thrown truth out the window.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Are you too young to understand the obvious significance of why the arbiter killed him?

No, the Arbiter doing it was more dramatic. A nice resolution, payback for betrayal, both personal and in general for his people.

  • 12.21.2011 5:21 PM PDT

Naw, I just like Chief better than a squid-head-splitlip. I know the arbiter killed him for revenge due to the prophets betrayal toward the sangheili, but I think chief doing what I suggested above makes for a more exciting cutscene.

So much symbolism in the Arbiter's killing of Truth...

Even the fact that he used an energy sword has symbolism behind it.

Chief (Humanity) killed Regret. Arbiter (Separatists) killed Truth. An infection form (Flood) killed Mercy. Together they effectively brought an end to the Covenant.

Arbiter.

Truth betrayed his race(Elites) and wanted them exterminated. Not to mention Truth lied to Arbiter about Halo.

Chief would've done it with no emotion, just another Covenant, except this one just so happens to run the entire thing.

not even the covenant can fight a three way war. especially when one of the opposing armies is their own.

Teamed up with one of the other opposing armies.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I liked the symbolic importance of Arbiter killing Truth.

  • 12.21.2011 7:01 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Chief didn't kill Arbiter.

The world is full of mysteries, and shares too few of the answers required. An example of which, is how did I end up in the Brute Zone?

I still enjoyed teabagging Truth through the floor.

Chief definitely should have killed the prophet. I think you guys are severely overestimating the depth of whatever symbolism and metaphor might have been in the Arbiter killing Truth. Arbiter was being a whiny little baby. Wah wah, Truth betrayed me and my race, wah wah. Well, whatever -blam!-, because he pretty much succeeded doing that with Chief's race you big whiner.

you are a good translator
Idiot can be a hard language to learn, but once you get it down, everything becomes so clear! The whole world will make sense to you.

The Arbiter was wronged at a very personal level by Truth, Chief was affected by Truth's actions but not as directly as Thel.

I don't know about you, but I'd take the annihilation of my entire species pretty close to heart.

Thel had the right to do so, not only did Truth use his race to annihilate the human species, causing a massive death toll in both humans and sangheili, but then he betrayed them and had them in turn annihilated by the Brutes. It's a matter of retribution, after all, humans weren't used as pawns.

And besides, Thel looked like he really enjoyed stabbing him. ^_^

Are you too narrow-minded to appreciate the obvious significance of why the arbiter killed him?

Fixed.

I can't even begin to describe my level of disappointment with your reasoning, OP. To quote Bungie, they are, first and foremost, story tellers. You don't create a story based on what is cool or exciting. It is based on drama, emotion, conflict, internal struggles, and an increasing understanding of the fictional world in which the story occurs. The character's actions stem from these factors.

The Arbiter killed Truth because Truth not only humiliated and shamed him but also spearheaded a genocidal campaign against the Elites, who until that time had been their most trusted allies. It was the ultimate betrayal. It can also be seen as symbolic of the climax of the Elites coming to terms with the realization that the Prophets had abused their power and that everything inherent in their belief system was essentially a lie. And Master Chief standing aside and letting the Arbiter achieve his revenge is a testament to the respect and camaraderie that had developed between the two of them.
