"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying." - M. Jordan

Is this game being built on a completely different engine?

I was looking at the trailer and this time I feel good about what Bungie is going to do with graphics. I can tell that they won't scrap the real time reflection graphics on the chiefs visor like they had to do in order for Halo 2 to run on Xbox.

It did look kinda crappy looking when the chief walked through the smoke but I'll have to take another look. Thank Bungie for finally giving us something.

Yes definatley... The ground and smoke looked bad. But the models were great.

“I believe that the sound of racking the pump of a shotgun is universally recognized as ‘kiss your ass goodbye’.”

I thought the smoke part looked very good. Smoke doesn't displace when you step into it. And if it does, it's by a VERY small margin. Unless you ran through it, that would be different. But Master Chief walked right through it.

Bungie has been working on improving this game engine for a long time. Before Halo1 it was called Blam.

Yeah the graphics are great, but Halo really makes up for that with anaimation, which are always smooth and just plain awesome, ghost boarding anyone.

Also what other next gen FPS can you see your feet, and Halo 2 on the xbox had it. Im not to worried about graphics, but the trailer ones are awesome, and next-gen.

Halo 2 runs on Havok, which was NOT made by Bungie...

Earlier games that used that include:

Psi-Ops
Doom 3

Edit: Sorry, I thought that maybe someone'd post by now, sorry for Double Post.

Eerm... that is made by VALVe, who is probably a Bungie competitor.

Have you ever thought of that?

Also, the Source Engine isn't as good as the CryEngine ;)

To DDRMaster: Don't forget Halo 2 and Half-Life 2.

Havok is a physics engine. That's all. Havok is not in any way a game engine. It is a component of a game engine.

The addition of Havok to Blam was one of the notable improvements made for Halo 2.

Halo 3 is not running on a updated version of the Halo 2 engine and i know this for two reasons. The first is just look at the trailer and the screenshots. There is no way to upgrade the engine enough without completely deleting and rewritting the code which in turn would not be updated, but a completely different engine. The second reason is that Bungie also said in one of the FAQ's that this is a new engine. No, source would not be as good as this engine, the source engine is now almost 3 years old. This engine is brand new and so far it has been amazing. Havok is, as someone already said, only a physics engine. This time around, I am hoping Bungie will do their own physics or call of a different physics engince because Havok isnt very good anymore unless they nake some major revisioins to their coding. This is a magnificant teaser, and a real trailer is probably in the works with many pictures and other things on the way. Bungie would never let their fans down and even they themselves have given their approval calling this a great final installment and something the fans would want.
