Halo tricking has been expressed in marvelous videos showing the first "Halo Physics Experiment" with step-by-step tutorials to massive, talented piles of H2 multiplayer madness that makes little sense to the average viewer aside from "awesome!"
Ducain, RandomCTG, and many others would like us to steer away from this "trickinima" aspect of documenting our tricks and glitches and head back to our roots of sharing how to step foot upon this untouched ground. Many of you may think we have to sacrifice "epic" for "tutorial" vids, but Renaissance in H2 Campaign has proven that to be untrue. Plus, many massive videos in H1, H2 Campaign, and H2 MP, have tutorials posted with their cinematic presentations of the glitches to enable you the viewer to spend your time watching the tricks in a most impressive way but also perform them for yourself.
So with the start of this essay I encourage myself and everyone to embrace the roots of HIH and post tutorials with each and every video, or better yet within the video you create. Our goal is not to entertain or gain glory but to explore. We can entertain and share glory along the way... but we cannot keep the pass closed behind us. Open the way, for everyones' sakes.
The principles of tricking are:
1: Exploration
Even though the world of Halo and video games are virtual worlds there is still the unavoidable human desire to explore that world. A certain thrill comes from knowing that despite four million people playing this game the same time you are, you KNOW that you're the first person to set foot upon this mountain (other than the developers). For people like me with a chronic illness, games like this give me an outlet for my normal desires. For everyone, it gives you the freedom to explore. Even though Mt. Everest has been climbed many times, you still consider it a fabulous feat everytime it is topped. You would consider it a personal achievement if you climbed it yourself. The same is with Halo. Although someone has already touched "Mt. Halo" on the level Delta Halo... have you? Have you seen what that place has to offer with your own eyes? You've seen videos, you've seen pictures... but have you flown above Silent Cartographer in a Warthog yourself? The human being will always seek what is unknown, and that which is common to others may not be common to you. Seek it for yourself.
2: Glitches
Weird and strange things happen in life. Ghosts move through walls. Things fall out of the sky. Objects fly through the night glowing and making us wonder. Animals long supposed to be dead walk the land. Although any of these may be mysteries or insanity, we know for a fact that "glitches within the Matrix" happen all of the time in video games for those who are paying attention. You're supposed to walk on the ground, not in the air. Your vehicle can NOT move through walls. That enemy can't exist here. When you play a game for enough hours you'll find things that happen that were unexpected and unpredicted. Mistakes. Glitches. Weird stuff. It piques our curiosity and forces us to seek more and seek an explanation. That alone can force us to climb mountains. In gaming it is no different from real life's mysteries.
3: Easter Eggs
The Creators of the virtual world left gifts and secrets behind for the perservering and bored gamer. These hidden wonders may make you smile, make you wonder, or give you special powers. Since virtual time existed, gamers have always sought the hidden pleasures that programmers left behind in their works. Like signatures of masterpieces hidden in the painting, Easter Eggs are wonders and mysteries embedded in the games we play. Some are commonplace and easy to see but hard to understand; others are hidden where only few will every find them, yet they mark plainly the prescence of their creators. In some cases they feel like hallowed ground that was never meant to be touched by us common explorers.
4: Tricking
Every game is a challenge, yet every GREAT game allows us to make our own challenges once we've completed what's present. Sure you can ride a dirt-bike down a dusty road... but can you make it do a flip? Sure you can skateboard... but can you hit a half-pipe and look cool? Sure you can drive a Ghost in Blood Gulch, but can you get off of the map? Can you make Hogs fly? Can you make Hunters take over the Control Room? Can you fly a Banshee where no Banshee could EVER go? Tricking is the concept of making mini-games within the games, and is much like "Extreme Sports" or "extreme boredom in action." Leave a human being in contact with any one thing for too long and he'll eventually come up with stuff to do to it that you've never intended. Why would the virtual world be any different? With tricking, we've taken a fantastic set of physics engines and done more with them than the developers intended. We've ramped, jumped, launched, soared, fall-timed, flown, bounced, and blasted our way into places no one imagined we'd set foot. Tricking satisfies our lust for "more" while also granting inspiration and creativity to the Explorer. Someone made skiing to travel across country easily, yet someone else decided that would be a heck of a ride downhill.
:) I bet it was his friends who decided that looked awesome.
Likely the explorer or first time inventor of a new method in real life is dead, either because of old age or a failed journey. Rarely is a new world opened up and fully explored by the original discoverer: it was those who came after him, reading his notes and following his journal, who went where he went and in most cases went further and documented more. Not always, but quite often. Use this example to remind yourselves that here at HIH we're meant to share, not just entertain. BMX is cool, snowboarding is cool, tricking is cool... but many people out there wish and want that they could do those things. In the virtual world, they can, sometimes easily if with a little patience. All we have to do is share our knowledge and sense of fun, our sense of exploration. Every mountain is new to you if you've never set foot upon it yourself, no matter how often you've read of it or seen pictures of its summit.
Let the spirit of exploration and fun guide you as we approach Halo 3. Very few people around here remember who first touched the soccer/foot ball on Metropolis, who found the first skull, who first fired the Scarab Gun. Who first found a second and then third Scarab Gun. Who found Hi Ben. Some of us will never forget, but many will never know let alone remember who first found it. But ask someone when they first fired the Scarab Gun or first used Sputnik and you'll get excited responses. Encourage those around you and share your skills. They will take your skills and create more skills, new lands to explore, and you can go with them. We can all go together.
A mountain will always remain to be conquered by you, the individual. If you seek glory for yourself, then you've misunderstood the real meaning of respect and glory. Share your glory and you will find respect here at HIH. Pioneer the road and be a scout, a guide, a leader, and you will be honoured and sought out. Be majestic, be honourable, and be epic, but don't forget that your journey is not the only one to be had, and remember that your journey may open up new doors to your own adventures.
Our goal is not to entertain but to understand the heart of exploration and mystery. We can entice those desires with stories of our own proud exploits while opening the doors for more young adventurers. They then will do the same for you, and once all is said and done, we shall each have stood upon a mountain that previously was a mystery to you, and to us all. Encourage creativity, but not at the expense of appearing glorious to those around you. Never take for granted that the person behind you can ski just because they have skis on their feet. They're eager, they're willing, but they've never skiied before. Teach them, then traverse the mountains together.
Those four principles drive why we trick, and if we are to film our exploits, let us do so with both entertainment and guidance in mind.

Even though this is pretty old, I still think that it still prove to be true even after 4 years.Anyways, I wasn't the one to write this, but the person that did is a genius. His name is POTS and unfortunately he was dianoised with cancer a little while ago. I just thought I would post this here to a answer to people that always ask why we do what we do.And a tribute to POTS. If you guys have any questions about anything, just like ask.
