"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

Where's the all option?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

ODST, hands down.

ODST, hands down.

My own vote was Halo CE, but ODST would definitely be a close second.

Halo 2 hands down, no comment. I felt it had the deepest part of the story.

Halo 2.

I can't decide between CE and ODST, but I voted CE.

Agree 100%.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

They were all good, but the best story-line was probably Halo 3.

  • 12.22.2011 6:11 PM PDT

Halo 2

Why? Because it had a more, in depth plot than all the other Halo games.

And it told the story better than the other Halo games.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

The fact that ODST was an expansion specifically focused on the story, yet not actually giving anything really new in terms of substance is disappointing.

Between the fantastic jazzy noir atmoshpere [Great job marty] and actual character portrayal [A squad actually done right]. There was little in actually advancing the storyline. We did get a glimpse of ODST life and Mombasa during post-H2, but that's about as far as it goes.

I mean the whole story was catered around retrieving your team and then finding ONI's Dare. It later takes a twist and you find a Engineer willing to help you. The whole significance to saving this Engineer is unexplained throughout the game.

and is never fully explained. Only a brief cameo of Sgt.Johnson on the Orbital platform is seen as a teaser to it's significance. So storywise beyond the flashy mombasa lights and group chitchat. ODST didn't really have much going for it, in comparison to the others.

My vote would go to Halo 2. It's emphasis on the:
-Covenant as a structured organisation with intentions beyond just killing humans.
-The introduction to the Gravemind [showing the flood was more then just 'zombies'] added depth.
-The relationship between the Cheif and Cortana are explored more.
-The UNSC is branched out [Mac Guns,Military personal etc], humanity struggle in Earth.
-Discovering more Halo rings laying the foundations for future installments.
-Arbitor, a look at the inner working of the covenant.
-Brutes rise to power, a civil war erupting. Prophets deceit.
-The partnership between UNSC and Covenant races in it's early stages.

So much more, Forerunner keyship, High Charity etc.

Halo 2 made Halo a game with an actual story [disregarding the books]

The cinimatic direction only further stregthen it.

It's clearly H2.

The world is full of mysteries, and shares too few of the answers required. An example of which, is how did I end up in the Brute Zone?

You missed Halo Wars, just kidding. I would say Halo 2 had more depth.

Why is there math on the pie?

In my mind it was a close tie between ODST and CE, but in the end I'm going with ODST, and here's why:

CE had an entertaining, succinct and well-driven plot. For the first look into a universe, it had just enough context to give an understanding of a wider story happening around it, but still focused on the story at hand. In-game, I as a player felt motivated to get to the next objective to continue the plot, and not just to finish the level. In short, it was everything a game needed to be.

ODST, however, had all that and more. Story driven, just enough mystery and exposition, etc. etc., but honestly it was the only Halo game that actually had characters that I gave half a damn about and not only wanted to not die but also wanted to keep them around just to see them interacting with each other.

Tl;dr characters make a better story than "plot".

Bow Chika Bow Wow!

I think Reach had the best campaign. Like ODST, it showed a team and introduced new characters. But, it also showed how humanity was losing the war, explained how the SPARTANS played a role in it, and gave these SPARTANS a bit more personality (letting your spartan be noble 6) than the rookie or the chief. Also, Reach felt like it was in the middle of CE and ODST. Although you weren't exactly a walking tank like in the Halo trilogy, you also weren't a weak ODST that had to use all his ammo to kill 5 or 6 Brutes. And it wasn't really tactical, but Reach's campaign did feel tactical, like ODST's. All in all, Reach felt like a perfect balance between the Halo campaigns

Warning!: Hitch-hikers may be escaped convicts.

I also really liked Halo 2, mainly because it felt more character diven with the Arbiter, who I honestly felt more connected to than any other Halo character. It was disappointing to see his story almost dropped entirely in Halo 3 however. At least we did get to see him kill Truth.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Halo 2 easily had the best narrative of any of the games.

Halo 3 was an epic finish to the trilogy. Halo 2 was great at some points but the lack of a proper ending hurt it too much. Halo started it all, but I felt the story in 2 and 3 were superior to it.The last level on 3 was simply amazing. Odst in my opinion got boring sometimes, and Reach was good, but it just didn't have that epic feeling that 3 had for me. Halo 3 gets my vote.

Argueble.

Me personally, I wouldn't put the squad of ODST in comparison to the Epic that is H2.

In some cases I would agree that the characters draw more than the plot [i.e Catch-22] but I just can't agree with that statement in terms of Halo Storyline.

With the exception of the Spartans portrayed in Fall Of Reach, First Strike and Ghost of Onyx.

97% OF TEENS WON'T STAND UP FOR GOD. IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE 3% WHO WILL, PUT THIS IN YOUR SIG.
As comrades we have outlasted this storm known as life.
As allies we have fought through the fires across the depths of Hell. As friends we are victorious but as brothers we stand united. WE ARE RESURCTED!
The Revisionaries

As a standalone game I would have to put my vote with Halo CE. ODST was good in that you got to discover things, but the story was so cramped in such a small world that there wasn't anywhere to go with it. Halo CE on the other hand spanned the galaxy and had many twists and turns. If you didn't know of the other games then CE would still be an intriguing and fun play. However, for the whole series it would be Halo 2 without a doubt. It was me least favorite as far as campaign gameplay, but had the best story. It showed how desperate the struggle was, and why certain things had to be done, such as the alliance of the Elites and the humans. It offered the most profound and emotional story. The only other one close to it would be Halo 3 just because it's the end. It's the final wrap of the Halo universe (until 343 unveils the full scope of Halo 4), and the key character deaths show how the desperation of the moment called for the ultimate sacrifice. Every game was amazing, but Halo 2 takes the cake, with Halo 3 as a close second.

Halo 2 for sure. I regularly go back to the campaign just to experience the Great Schism in the level Uprising....

Damn, now I want to go play it.

Halo 2 was just pure excellence. The betrayal of the Elites was superbly done.
