Subject: Question about the level Gravemind

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

So during Gravemind the Elites, Grunts and Hunters are fighting everything else, AFTER the Arbiter and Chief have met.

If Arbiter and Chief are already allies, why are the elites still fighting MC? Even if the Arbter hadnt met Chief, couldnt the Elites have just sided with Chief to make things easier?

Plus. During the level Uprising the Elites and Grunts are allied with the Marines

So whats going on here?

The arbiter hadn't spread the word of teaming up with the humans.

Hes, but for that reason the elites may as well not have sided up with the humans in Halo 3

Both the humans and The Elites didn't want Truth to activate the rings. I'm guessing this is why they sided with eachother.

Not neccesarily, Truth basically wanted the Elites to be exterminated by the Brutes.

That's why at the end of Q-Zone Tartarus says, "A bloody fate waits for you(Arbiter) and the rest of your incompetent race. And I, Tartarus, Chieftain of the Brutes will send you to it."

So, to clear up, truth wants the elites wiped ot, which is why the elites, grunts and hunters are fighting the covenant, and their still fighting you because you've killed lots of their people

But how come at the start of the Great Journey, the ship master calls the beutes traitors against them and the prophets

And why does truth want the elites exterminated

Pretty much.

1. The Grunts and Hunters liked the Elites because they were very friendly to eachother unlike the Brutes. The Grunts and Hunters hated the Brutes.

2. The Brutes were brainwashed into thinking activating Halo was "The Start of The Great Journey." The Gravemind told Arbiter the truth of Halo and what it really does.

3. Truth wants the Elites exterminated because Master Chief blew up a Halo ring and killed Regret. The Elites didn't like the decision.

Oh Crap! All this talk reminds me that I left my Xbox on with Halo 2 inside! *goes to turn it off*

This. Pretty much. You can see in the opening cutscene for Gravemmind that the Elite ships are already engaging the Brute ships around High Charity. Considering this was before the Arbiter was released by Gravemind, this supports the fact that the Elites were just against the Prophets and Brutes and had no allegiance with the Humans and the UNSC until later on in the series ("The Great Journey")

So during Gravemind the Elites, Grunts and Hunters are fighting everything else
when the prophet of truth ordered the brutes to exterminate the elites race once the index was in their possession, certain grunts and hunters didn't approve and aided the elites in resisting the slaughter thus were rendered heretics from a prophets view for breaking their code. the covenant split into two factions:

* Covy Loyalists: prophets, brutes, drones, certain grunts, jackals. they still don't know the truth about the rings

* Covy Separatist: elites, hunters and various grunts. the elites learned the truth about Halo shortly after brutes, drones, various grunts and jackals started attacking them on high charity

* Humans: MC and the marines of the UNSC, the separatists still considered them enemies during the events of gravemind without knowing they both wanted to the same thing

* Flood who arrived at High charity some time around the end of gravemind before the prophets proceed to delta Halo's control room.

AFTER the Arbiter and Chief have met.
so what? just because they both met, it doesn't make them allies. the arbiter easily distrusted anything MC would have told him because they're both enemies but he became suspicious after being told the second time by a monitor Halo will destroy all life within 25,000 light-years of the ring.
thats why gravemind and the flood feared anyone in possession of the index.

lol, you don't seem to understand what's going on. arby didn't become allies with the humans until he met Johnson during the second last cutscene of GJ, jhonson could of easily killed him and the rest on the spot but instead asked for his help to take down tartarus and prevent the activation of Halo

Plus. During the level Uprising the Elites and Grunts are allied with the Marines
are you sure? i dont remember marines on the level uprising

sometime after the events of HALO 2 no more separatist grunts where heard of (either killed or went back to the loyalist side), hunters went back to the loyalist side.

Well, I tried not to get too complicated with all this, I just figured that when the Elites were tossed out, it was civil war and that was a different kind of fight than what the Heretics were fighting for. So it didn't surprise me when Elites were fighting Brutes, Flood and Marines.

  • 12.23.2011 2:35 PM PDT

I thought it was quite good how the Heretics were actually the ones 'in the know' about Halo and what it does.

Same same, I didn't want to kill him. Too bad you could not have a choice of plot options.
