As you fire a weapon your aiming reticule grows larger decreasing the accuracy of your shots.
So how is this any different than recoil in other games? On BF forums people make fun of CoD players for having to deal with more recoil than they're used to, but in Halo people are complaining about having recoil period?
Bloom =/= Recoil.
Bloom is the randomness of the bullets spreading out across the reticule.
Let me rephrase it then. Bloom in Halo is no different than the decreased accuracy that comes from shooting too fast in other games, with the amount of decrease in accuracy varying between weapons?
Bloom has always been on automatic weapons in Halo, except for Reach and CE. CE had bloom on the Magnum (which worked perfect), and lolReach has bloom on pretty much everything.
And it is slightly different from shooting too fast with decreasing accuracy, as "shooting too fast" in most FPS's pretty much means "full auto". The semi auto weapons don't have bloom (unless fired from the hip). They have recoil (that jump or shake of the screen).
I know what the technical difference is, but what people in Halo call bloom is simply referred to as recoil by everybody else. I've been on CS:S forums, CoD forums, BF Forums, RSV2 forums, and of course Halo forums and Halo players are the only ones to call it bloom. Bloom is still nothing to complain about as weapons in every other shooter have the same effect, regardless of whether they are automatic, burst fire, semi-automatic, or bolt-action. They all suffer from a decrease in accuracy as you fire more frequently if you don't allow the crosshairs to reset often enough, just like bloom in Halo. It's nothing to cry about.
Also, when aiming down the sight in other FPS games the visual climb of the weapon is indeed recoil, but it's also just a different representation of bloom. All weapons have it in other FPS games, some more than others, and there is no explanation for why so many people on these forums cry about it other then they can't handle it.
