Whenever I post, it feels like I'm invisible. Like I don't exist...

It's almost like the members that aren't as well known are just dismissed like a box of kittens on the side of the road but you just don't care enough to bring them to a safe place, and when a member that you know posts something it's like an automatic, "Hey!" response...

I was just wondering this to see if anybody else feels like this at any time. So I ask, do you ever feel invisible?

I'm too popular and cool to be invisible.

Not really.

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

Ironically, I didn't even see who posted the topic, but just read the post itself. So, yes, you may sometimes be invisible. But don't take it personally, I'm sure a lot more people do the same thing to nearly everybody.

There are some perks to being around for a long time. People are a lot more likely to respond to a comment made by someone they know. That's just human nature, it's true in person and over the internet.

I myself don't make an attempt to "ignore" newer people, but I'm sure that to some it may seem like they aren't as well noticed.

I always look at who posts it and then I read their post. I usually gain more respect for them.

Like you: I read your name, then read your post :)

Not really invisible, but sometimes I do feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind.

  • 12.22.2011 8:04 PM PDT

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

Sometimes, but not very often. It's most common when you post in a long thread where people are discussing something. People come and respond to the person who responded to them, and before you know it you're on one of the middle pages and almost never get read.

That's very poetic.

I don't think you're invisible.

You're so opaque it ain't even funny.

First, get a more obnoxious avatar. I recommend orange, yellow, and green as a color pallet. Second, quote people a lot. The more you quote people the more likely you are to be recognized and responded to. Third, join Private Groups. You'll make friends and meet people who're more likely to talk to you on the mains than randoms.

Maybe it's because you really are invisible...

I was invisible, then I took an arrow in the knee.

I have a legendary title, and I feel the same way a lot of the time. I find that if you act as if you are known and have something worth while to say, people start to listen and believe what you are portraying to be genuine.

Only when I played Halo: Reach. :D Blam, I wish I could play Halo: Reach right now. :(

Anyway, the only time I feel like my posts aren't being read, is when the posts above and below mine have five or more quotes in them that take up half the page at least, especially when the quotes are three or more times as large as the reply.

  • 12.22.2011 8:23 PM PDT

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

Based on the numbers available from other forums, the number of people who read a thread is usually much higher, sometimes as much as ten or a hundred fold, than the number that post.

There isn't anyway of knowing how many users actually read and think about everything posted, but considering that they didn't just hit "reply," it means that they were more interested in what other people had to say. Thus, it's reasonable to assume that several people have seen your post.

Therefore, it is best to think of the number of people that read what you've written as undefined and focus more on the quality of your post regardless of who reads it. After all, it isn't like you win all the points if so many users quote you.

In addition to my other post, I felt invisible once too. It was at school though. This kid had these awesome looking brownies, right? And I asked if I could have one. He said yes, but started talking about how he put something special in the butter or whatever, but I wasn't listening. I immediately ate 3. Within a couple seconds, everything turned this weird shade of purple and I started being chased by these rhinos, yeah? But then, I figured out I was invisible so the rhinos stopped. So the rest of the day I was invisible. The kid offered me more after school but I told him a man should only ever be invisible once. The end.
