In Reach, your shields are much less visible. You can't tell if someone's shields are weak or not until they're either recharging or you're in the middle of shooting them. In Halo 3, they would light up and the brighter they were, the weaker they were. They changed this in Reach for some reason.
They changed it to work with the new Reach shield mechanics. Halo 3's shields worked much better with bleed through, and bleed through (IMO) worked much better in that game.
Not a fan of it in Reach, though Zero Bloom is amazing.
