Subject: For those who played ONLY since Halo 3...

This thread is targeted at those who played from Halo 3's release, and only from Halo 3's release (late 2007 to early 2008), but since nobody can stop you, you can post your opinion as well.

Have you found Reach to lack the experiences you had in Halo 3? I'm not talking about gameplay necessarily, but community experience, and social interaction. I don't know if it's just me, but I had a lot of fun with Halo 3 in terms of experiences I had. Halo 3's "time" had so many different key phases, some that I can distinctly remember. For example, when boosting in ranked was trending, and there was that massive situation with "external content" being uploaded to file shares, and when everyone wanted recon and thought it was the best thing in the world.

I am currently 17, and I was as young as 13 years of age when I had all these experiences. Does anybody remember any significant experiences they has in Halo 3, and does Halo 3 today bring any sort of nostalgic remembrance to you?

I posted this in the Reach forum because... well... Reach lacks all of this. I don't know if it's the community, or the lack of "exploitable" features and assets (i.e., file shares are much different, party chat is highly encouraged, and the small communities such as manipulative boosters, highly-competitive MLG players, clans, and those who dedicated themselves to specific ranked playlists). I know Reach isn't that good, but wouldn't some of these small aspects be left behind in Reach, because I find absolutely none of them left.

I don't know, reading this thread back to myself, it just feels like it contains fragmented memories and unnecessary jibber-jabber. But I know some of you out there can relate.

Can someone, anyone, relate to my situation with Halo 3 and Halo: Reach? I feel like I can only relate to people who comment on Halo 3 tribute videos on YouTube. feelsbadman.jpg

I've been playing Halo since 2008, but not Halo 3. I felt Reach did good, but changed too many features. This upset a lot of people who wanted gameplay to stay similar to previous installments. However for me, I liked the changes, but some others such as crappy mission layout bother me.

As for nostalgic, not really. My best memories were in Halo 2. I played H3 for a while but never really looked back on it. I had some good times, but all in all, nothing sticks out.

Sorry, I rushed to the reply button. Hopefully my edit can clear up my feelings. But one thing that did stick out was the machinama, they were the best back in Halo 3. Cannot believe I forgot those!

You know what? I signed in after six months to post in this thread. Halo 3 had awesome social experiences for me (95% of my friends list comes off of H3). Reach just doesn't cut that rope for me. Sure, the gameplay is nice and all, but Halo 3 had that social quality to it that made it so much more fun. Nowadays, we have Reach, and Reach feels dead. And you don't find people playing Halo 3 much more, either.

I mad.

I, as well as others I've met, feel the exact same way.

I guess I'm not the only one. Thank you...

Do I count if I only played as a guest in Halo 2?

"Set a man on fire he will be warm for the rest of his life"

I have played H3 since 2009
And I TOTALLY agree the community just isnt what it used to be.

one reason is that people just don't go into custom games because they want to customize their armor. Which to me is like changing hats on a digital barbie doll...but each to their own.

I played since Halo 2 and I've played all Halo games before and after. I've been around the block a few times, and I have come to a conclusion. You are all crazy. I have had loads of fun playing Halo 2 with my friends and family, and even more kicking butt on Halo 3. But I think that Halo: Reach has done much better than all you guys are saying. I have much more fun playing Halo: Reach, than Halo 3.

This may sound stupid, but I don't think that Bungie put as much love into Halo Reach as they did the other games. I mean, I love all of the Halo games besides Reach, I could play them over and over and over again. But I only "like" Reach. It's still just a game to me, and after playing the campaign once, I didn't really go back and think "wow... That was awesome." For me it was more of a "...Meh."

It's just that for the other games, there seemed to be more of a story that you could follow. But for Reach it was a series of disjointed short-stories.

I've been playing since Halo:CE, but never online until Halo 3. I can say that Halo 3's multiplayer just had a better feel than Reach. However, I've played Reach more, mostly because what I didn't like about Halo was that everybody went for the power weapons so I never really got into Halo 3 as much as other FPS games until I found Swat. That and the story (no flood, no lone supersoldier hero, instead it was a team of Spartans) and the customization. I like watching cutscenes with me in them.

Then I stop playing for a few months and I return to see that not only did Swat now require all of the DLC, but so did most of the rest. I remember counting 9 out of 16 or 17 playlists at that time that required all the DLC. I just played yesterday and counted again, 9 out of 13 playlists require all DLC. Seeing as how I didn't yet have a debit card I wasn't able to pay for them as they came out (although I did get Heroic, but I think that was free). I didn't like the idea of dropping an extra $30 into a game just to play more than half the multiplayer (now more than 2/3 of it) so that's when Halo 3 got ruined for me.

Only thing bad about Halo 3's community was that some people would buy their ranks, that's the only thing I can think is bad about it.

3 years and only 1 ban, try harder next time noobs.

I do miss some of the neat stuff in Halo 3, but many of my problems with Reach are in a different area.

I remember playing Infection/fat kid mode in the LEVEL 001 map or something like that with both RL and online friends, had tons of fun

The MLG Tryhard mentality to assume if your no where near a 50, or even if you don't have one, your bad. They felt a god complex over everyone which was very arrogant.

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

I will never forget Halo 3. It was one of, if not the best online experiences I have ever had.

Halo 3's experience will always be the peak of my gaming career. Getting recon, bungie favorites 7 times, and playing almost everyday with my friends. So with that said, I feel like I'm biased toward the H3 online experience.

I hate MLP. It is cancerous and pretty stupid to see men watching a show for girls. They can deny the truth but the truth shall prevail!

Reach was a let down.

reach was awesome but halo 3 was better and bad in 3 they never did firefight if they did it would be kickass reach firefight is the best.Campaign in 3 was OK reach was better because they were more members in the team in 3 there was basically just the arbiter i have many more things to say but 3 is a little better.

P.S. u r opinion

I agree, I remember when unique things were very but very difficult to get. In Reach there is nothing.

  • 12.24.2011 4:08 PM PDT

lolnope.

I've been playing since Halo 2's later days but Halo 3 was and still is my favorite. This thread makes me really miss the social aspect of Halo which Halo 3 presented perfectly. Reach doesn't seem to promote that.

The community died because Reach was terrible. Everyone I know in real life jumped ship to CoD because of Reach.
