Halo 3 will (hopefully) be Halo 3. What do I mean by this? Well, it seems to me that a lot of people are begging for two things: 1. 64 player "all out war" and 2. some sort of "sneak" factor - be it peaking, prone position, flashbangs, whatever.
If you fall into the 1. category, GO PLAY BATTLEFIELD 2!
If you fall into the 2. category, GO PLAY COUNTERSTRIKE!
I want Halo 3 to be Halo 3, not any other game. The multiplayer in Halo 2 is just about perfect as is with only a few minor problems. Halo 2 was great. PLEASE do NOT change Halo 3 into some completely different game! The player count and team dynamics worked very well with Halo 2 online and I would hate to see that changed.
Any more than 6 v 6 and I feel totally insignificant. Just imagine what 32 v 32 would feel like. Now imagine it with a bunch of random people, half of whom don't wear mics (probably for the better) and a good portion of whom just want to see how many splatter kills or sniper kills they can get. You can throw any idea of team dynamics straight out the window. Which means everyone is basically going 1 v 32 the entire freaking time.
Now let's examine the sneak factor. Halo is NOT a sneaking game, no matter what you might think based on the crouch ability. Halo is a run and gun shooter and that's how it's meant to be played. Adding any more stealth would completely change the way the game is played and I think for the worse. Part of the allure of Halo are the emotional highs and lows that come with such a fast paced game. I live for getting the killtacular with any weapon, or a 30 kill spree in the back of a warthog. Tell me, what does "going prone" add to the game? Master chief doesn't need to lie down to get off a good shot with the sniper rifle -- he can do it on the run for crying out loud. That's how it's supposed to be. And flashbangs? It's called massive firepower - what halo is all about. Blow the crap out of the base defenders, don't be a little wuss and blind them temporarily.
Sorry for that little rant, but I LOVE Halo 1 and Halo 2 multiplayer, and it would be a damn shame to lose the essence of what makes the halo series incredible to begin with. Just think before you add something to a wishlist.
