I did had a theory of putting Cortana's Ai. into a flood form which would resemble him .. Instead he corrupted Cortana, and is it me or is Cortana's throat and Neck .. Open? At least missing something

also cortona says "i know your past and your future", and at the end she says "this is the way the world ends" so does that mean we are all going to die

I agree that I also heard Gravemind's voice almost overlapping Cortana's when she spoke. My guess is either Gravemind managed to convince her to side with the Flood, or he "infected" her somehow, which is not possible, considering she's an AI. But remember one thing: Gravemind could get into people's heads (the opening cutscene at the last level "The Great Journey", when he spoke into the Arbiter's mind, "There is still time to stop the wheels from turning." or something to that extent.

I believe that artifact that is shown glowing is most likely one of the life-purging weapons that are installed in every Halo. Of course, the Ark might be situated somewhere deep down there, to allow anyone who resides a safe haven till the bio-purge is over. And does anyone think the Ark is in Africa? Look at the plains and the trees that grow there. I guess a lot of people have heard about the theory that humans all have their roots in Africa, their ancestral birthplace. I think Bungie is tying this theory to the game.

i guessed that also but i bet that i'm the only person who heard his voice but analyzed it.

I wouldn't bet anything. THe first time I watched it I heard the voice. Then the second I wrote down all the lines. Then I started to speculate...

Don't get too full of yor abilities when there is a world of people out there who do the same thing. I know I did.

heres a thought, what if cortana has taken control of the gravemind? Its as plausible as the gravemind taking control of her. that would throw up a whole new set of possibilites.

Yall know how cortana was being currupted by the ring in the first halo? Her attitude changed. I believe Gravemind might actually be Linked with the ring worlds, and the arc. Thats how he is controling Her. He is able to teleport People and stuff just like 343GS, so maybe hes even an AI himsef.

Lots of spoilers for the halo books:

spoilers for the halo books:

I'm gonna go with the idea that cortanas messed up state is because what we're seeing is a copy of her. at the end of the book the copies she created to help fight the covenants ai's in their computer system were about as incoherent.

It would also explain why cortana voice seems to be made up of many voices speaking at once. in the book this happened and they found her hard to understand until she concentraterd to make only one voice speak to them- like she did at the end of the trailer.
I don't think gravemind has beaten her at all, she's just created many many copies of herself to fight gravemind and in the course of that fight has gained some information from gravemind about halo and possibly has gained part of gravemind as well.

In the books humanities AI's are supposed to be unusually good and cortana is one of the best at fighting other AI's.

I keep referencing the books but keep in mind that bungie have had an overall plot worked out for some time, the writers of the halo books were given acess to this.
I'm wondering if we might get to see Kelly, one of the other spartans(the master chief wasn't in fact the only one to survive the fall of Reach), who was last seen being carried off in a small ship by our good friend Halsey- who's mind was the origonal template for cortana.

I can see the posibility of playing parts of the game as some of the other spartans as well.

END OF BOOK SPOILERS

I recommend to anyone who really wants to understand more of the storyline read the books.
The 1st and 3rd books are two exceptionally good books, the guy who wrote the second book "The Flood" on the other hand was terrible.I couldn't even read more than a chapter or two before I gave up and moved on the the 3rd book.

Not really a twist at all. The twist was at the end of Halo 2 and this is adding to it. It's no surprise at all that gravemind has Cortana in his grasps still. And Gravemind isn't the keeper of Halo (That's 343 Guilty Spark.) Gravemind is the collective mind of the flood. Gravemind may be doing the same thing to Cortana as the flood did to Keyes in which it was taking control over his mind, but he still had some control, but as she is an AI Construct she may be less susceptable to it. And as the Halo 3 part of this website say themselves "Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind." it is indeed no surprise.

I noticed it and thought it was pretty clever, but nicely spotted.

I really don't think cortana and gravemind are "merged" in any fashion. First off gravemind seems to be biological. Cortana is a cube of memory. They don't merge. Cortana was seen collaborating with Gravemind at the end of Halo2 of her own free will. The flood do not interface with computers in the way many think, when a flood takes control of a sentient being, it gains the memories of the being it possesses. This means that the flood can repair ships and interface with our systems, in the exact same way that we or the covenenant do, except maybe using tentacles instead of fingers, since they are in practilly dead bio forms. Cortana is not a sentient being, she is a computer program. Graveminds vast knowledge of the past would likely be responsible for any corruption in cortana, especially since she does seem close to death. In the books it is described that most AI have a 7 year life span...but why is this? Because under normal conditions an AI will put itself into a thought loop it can never come out of, it thinks itself into being completely useless. Cortana is not in normal conditions and she interfaced with a huge database of forerunner info. Then she did the same with the covenants info in halo 2. I think from the 2 games alone, she has learned enough information to shorten her life in half. Gravemind being a collective intellegence, doesn't need to infect her for her to do his will. Gravemind was able to convince master cheif and the arbiter to do what he says. The arbiter was raised on the Great journey! Its like a Christian turning against God after 25 years of loyality! When you can convince like this, you don't need to infect, just plenty of time alone to conversate, which is what was implied to me by the end of halo2.

So why is her voice all broken up? How about a better question, wtf is generating her image to begin with? Cortana doesn't just appear in any space she wants to, don't know if any of you noticed that, any time you see her she is at a computer terminal of some type. The machinery in that desert was destroyed. She is using some type of long range communication ability and for it to get to earth so fast(Remember everyone is opening slip space gateways in order to get from place to place because the distance is too far, even at the speed of light you cannot travel to any of these places in the amount of time shown by the game), the communication would probobly travel through slipspace, leaving plenty of room for corruption of the message itself. This is all based on wether or not what was in the trailer was not all false, remember the halo2 demo? Looked like a lot of fun to play, but we never saw it, bungie released something similar but different. The halo2 trailer, again something similar but it never really happened. The only other thing that explains Cortana is her ability to Copy herself, although this one seems more unlikely to me as she learned of the dangerous effects of this when she did it in the book. The only thing that would support it, is that I remember Cortana complaining about some AI on High Charity that was trying to stop her.

You forget that Cortana is also sentient, created from living tissue of Dr. Halsey. The Flood can just as easily merge with her, however it would be in a unique way, henceforth the broken transmissions and the cryptic words.

Cortana also states that she knows our history...which i believe means what ive been saying since Halo 1. the forerunners were humans and thats why the Ark is on Earth and why the monitors call us reclaimers.

"The facepalm required to respond to this would be so gargantuan that I fear it would destroy me." -Urk

I think Cortana has simply gone rampant. Those who've read the books know that Smart AIs usually die off after 7 years because they get too smart and gain too much knowledge and become insane. The AIs that are to become rampant were taken offline by ONI before it happens if I'm not mistaken... *I really have to read the books again.

I also agree that it should not be possible for Gravemind and Cortana to "merge". The transmissions seen in the trailer seem to be directed to John 117. but its quite oubvious that the MC does not hear or see anything at the time.
