Subject: To Join or Not to Join...... That is the question.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I am a terrible group member. I only belong to one and my visits/participation is part of my duties.

I (sadly or honestly, take your pick) haven't seen anything offered by a private group that interests me enough to pull me from public forum participation.

It's me, not you, my own flaw and I have to learn to live with it.

You should join a group like Sapphire where they talk about things like you do in the Flood all the time.

The problem with MANY groups is their activity is very low. I can think of maybe 3 or 4 groups where activity is on a sustainable level.

If I get one of these PMs, I respond with....

Thanks for the invite but I'll have to pass at this time. Best of luck with your group/clan.

They took the time to PM so I'll take the time to respond back to them.

If their PM is well thought out and tells me something about the group/clan I'll check out the group homepage to get a feel for what they are about. If that peaks my interest I'll join and see how their forums are. Based off that I'll stay or go. With that being said I have yet to join a group from a PM invite.

If they are actually serious Halo MLG XX PROS XX, I don't join.

If they're not, I'll check em out for a few days and decide, though it's been a while since I've gotten an invite in PM.

  • 12.23.2011 11:37 AM PDT

Of the 10-20 group invites I've gotten, I've only joined about 1 or 2 of them.

  • 12.23.2011 11:43 AM PDT

Friends before pixels.

I'll just join to see what it's like and if I like it, I stay.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Depends on who sent me the invite.

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

As you waste your breath complaining about life, Someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have.

If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

I don't understand why people hate group invites so much. Sure, if it's just a generic one and it's some random that's only been on the site for a week then it probably won't be great but any group with decent activity levels has had to recruit at some point.

I check who the invite is from, how many members are in the group, if it's open or private group, the creation date of the group and who else is in the group that I know.

Based on that I usually can tell if I would like to join that group or not.

The only group I ever joined was WARR and that was only after RR got cut from regular matchmaking. It would take one of the people on my friends list recommending a group before I would join.

Unless the group is Chaos Theosis and they offered to send me nudes. In which case I would come running ;)

Do you seek out artists who can share in some creativity?

Lately I have really been getting into stuff like this, so yes, this is one of my top priorities.

  • 12.23.2011 12:35 PM PDT

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I don't anymore.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I'm active in one private group really. I just don't see the difference between them and the normal forums, besides the upscale clientele.

1.Do you prefer general chatter among an exclusive guest list?

2.Do you look for people who want to play games?

3.Do you seek out artists who can share in some creativity?

4.Picture your ideal group. What do those people do together?

1.Not really sure what this means, but if it means "less people, better discussion" than no. I would rather have lots of people posting their own little snippet of information/opinion than only 10 regulars constantly posting. It would add diversity and interest to the group.

2.Not really. I go to groups looking for discussion and such. Sort of like a more mature Flood. The only time I would play games with someone from b.net would be in Ride Alongs, which I unfortunately haven't participated in yet.

3.Yes. I love making art and having it reviewed by others, and I also love reviewing other people's art. Something like a much more active Gallery Forum would be absolute heaven for me.

4.My ideal group: Lots of people, over 2,000. All post regularly on an everyday basis. They post random things that interest them. There is also a place where we can all share things that we created, whether it be paintings or forge maps. Everyone is pretty nice to each other and we respect each others' opinions. I know, it sounds way too good to be true, but hopefully in the future something like this is possible.

I usually just ignore it.

If I get more than one PM for a group, I blacklist whatever accounts sent PMs for that group.

If they personally wrote a PM to me about the group because something I posted fits within the group's scope, then I'll check it out...usually the groups are nearly empty or filled with kids on a powertrip because they have mod/admin powers over others.

This is ironic in that the groups I look for when selecting people to ride along are the ones that play games together.

I know, now that I look at it that way it does look pretty weird. I'm just sort of uncomfortable playing with random people I don't know at all, whereas in Ride Alongs I know lots of people from the main forums. And I get to play with a Bungie Employee :)

When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

I don't get as many group invites as I used to. I used to join by default, but have since then gone through and purged most of them. I only join groups now that are with people I actually play with and know on some sort of level. Otherwise, I'd just be an absentee group member.

  • 12.23.2011 1:13 PM PDT

I've tried joining several groups over the years but eventually wound up leaving for various reasons (inactivity in the group, don't feel like I fit in, elitism, doesn't hold my interest, etc...). I'm more willing to join if the group already has members I know and like.

  • 12.23.2011 1:39 PM PDT

I only really follow up on group invites if they're from people I know. Probably because I trust that they think that I would genuinely fit into the group. The problem with stranger invites is that you have no idea at all what their group is going to have in it, it might be the best thing since sliced bread or the worst thing since planking.

I usually have an open mind when it comes to group invites. If the group seems like something I'd like, I'll join in a heartbeat. My entire Bnet experience changed when a certain someone invited me to a group of theirs, and I don't really have anything to lose by joining, do I?

I don't get group invites, but if I were to get one, I would probably give the group a chance, seeing as how I can't really judge it unless I have been a part of it for a certain period of time and got a good feel of whether or not the group interests me.
