I have read many times today that many people think Cortana is somehow being controlled by the Gravemind. I have also said that I believe Cortana has gone rampant. I was just watching the trailer(again) and noticed something. As I'm sure you have heard, if you listen carefully you can hear the gravremind speaking the same words Cortana says. The Gravemind only speaks in seven sylables. Cortana's first two lines are seven sylables each. Many say she is being controlled by the gravemind. Earlier I believed she was just going rampant, but now the idea that the Gravemind is somehow controlling her isn't so farfetched to me. What do you think?

Seriously I dont get why people think she is going rouge, or trying to hel[ Gravemind. She seems no different to me then when I played halo1...

Think about this ending: (I cannot make a topic because apparently my account was deleted a few months ago and i was not notified about it and in all honesty, this thread fits perfectly with this thought):

If we take this teaser seriously, I think there is a simple conclusion to the Halo 3 plot: We lose. Its that simple; everyone dies. If you think about it, a lot of it makes sense. Look at what the teaser showed us:

I have defied gods and demons.
I am your shield, I am your sword
I know you, your past, your future
This is the way the world ends.

Alright, defied Gods and demons – Gravemind defied the gods (Forerunners, who are the gods of the Covenant) and demons (obviously Master Chief considering he is called that in H2).

It is at this point that it is apparent that at some point, in some way, Cortana is now under his influence; whether it be reprogramming or personal choice doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I know you, your past, your future – Gravemind speaking through Cortana? He knows of the Humans past (Forerunner past). Gravemind has already proven to be incredibly intelligent considering the role he played in H2, it appears as though he also knows a good amount of human history (and apparently future).

This is the way the world ends – Maybe it is. Maybe they know something we don’t. Maybe this is inevitable. Geez, it practically worked for The Matrix, didn’t it? I don’t see how this could not be a scenario. And, if we are to take any of what is said in this teaser seriously, I believe it is the scenario that seems to make the most sense.

The only thing I cannot seem to decide on is the shield/sword reference. Any ideas?

You can hear Graveminds voice in Cortanas. But even though she may be rampant, or combined with Gravemind, she still sounds like she's on humanity's side.

Shield / Sword...

If, by chance it is Gravemind speaking with / through Cortana, He / it may assume he has shielded life from Forerunner technology..? He has been the sword that held that same technology in check with the Flood..?

Gravemind seems to suffer from the " I am Protecting you while I kill you " complex most times...

He is an ancient being from a time long gone... Insanity is probably running amok in his aging mind, but who knows..? He may be the hero in the end <shrug>

I feel that he wants to come across as the reluctant hero to all parties concerned, but in reality only appears to be doing so to further his goals of survival at all cost... Cortana may or maynot have fallen for this ploy. She could simply be under his influence or going along willingly through some mis information. Who knows at this point...

The shield sword reference could be targeted at the Master Chief himself... If this is a cut scene that just overlays her thinking about the Chief. He has been a shield that protects humanity, and a sword that has been directed at it's enemies... She could be saying these things to Gravemind in a stand against him, while at the same time the Chief faces the Covenant on Earth and they overlayed them together for dramatic purposes..?

Most likely this is not a cut scene from Halo 3, and even if it is this could be taken from many different angles once it's in game. More importantly Cortana is working in her own and MCs best interests. Now she may be short on information or still suffering from information overload, but either way she is not trying to put MC at risk.

Maybe the sword shield reference has something to do with Master Chief himself. Maybe he (the presumed savior of his people, AKA shield) is going to be minipulated by a tainted Cortana to be the sword which ends up beheading the people he is supposed to be protecting.

That'd make for one hell of an ending. Kind of like a "whoops, shouldn't have listened to her!....The End!" Hahaha, man that would piss a lot of people off.

I think she's both rampant and being controlled by the Gravemind. Or she fused with the Gravemind. Either way, she's rampant and probably evil now.

I've got to get around to making that "Cortana Rampancy Complex" thread. I have so many ideas.

There it is right there, you hear his voice, Cortana and Gravemind have joined.

Given that MC is fully aware that he has left Cortana with Gravemind, has absolutely nobody here considered that

.this
.may
.be
.a
.dream
.sequence?

I was unaware that robots could dream. Except for Sunny from I Robot and that movie sucked.
