Because it would've been too risky. Master Chief could have easily died on one of the two Halo's, or on High Charity.

Who would risk such a pricless thing?

Well, remember in H2 when the Covenant cruiser did a jump in the city? I think this is the city. Look at the bridge in the background. You can't do a jump through space without blowing up alot of the stuff you jumped around. And I think the Chief has just, or recently arrived back on Earth. I don't think the Covenant would have enough time to glass the planet.

He COULD have died but i mean... cmon... he's master chief!!!!!! he's a Lucking Fegend man!!

Also how would HE know that the key is within his architecture? he wouldn't know that.... BUT Cortana said she knows his past.... so maybe the data audits from when they made the master chief were uploaded to cortana somehow and she said she knows his future.... Maybe HE is the KEY

OOOoooOOOOOO

Or maybe she merely means that she knows his past, as in his old missions, his old adventures, everything he has gone through, how this will be different.

OR MAYBE(!) your reading into this too far.

Yeah it's just something i wanted to throw out there... u know... just something else for people to think about.... but then again... YOU NEVER KNOW....

Just a thought popped in my head while i think..... What if what we saw in the teaser, was actually a cutscene of chief having a dream or something and cortana has spoken to him in that way.... hmmm I know i've had some strange dreams with an AI flashing up in front of me....

Gar. don't read to much into it. simplicity is what keeps halo a great thing. there are no super insanely crazy plot twists (except for the flood, and the covenant civil war) but most everything is beleivable. i mean steven speilberg said that once you have the audience, you have them, and that is what you have to stick by. you can invent a universe about talking muffins, and as long as you have guidelines and dont break them, the people are okay with it. if you constantly break your rules, then its over. and your story sucks. i personally think that the humans are forerunners, why is it that the monitor only calls humans reclaimers, and he only needs their assistance. and the humans are the only race that the covenant didnt ask for peace with. before they destroy any race, they always ask if they want to join the covenant. with the humans it was different. they immediatly tried to kill them. and the structure in the trailer. it looks forerunnerish. so yeah. and it looks like a massive halo! plus the covenant didnt glass earth. they need it. all of it. there might be more forerunner artifacts on earth. the chief is definetly not the "KEY" their is probably another index and stuff. just like every other halo. 'cause i bet that "the ark" is the mother of all halos.

i win...

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Seriously, if you didn't read the FAQ section on Halo 3, then you wouldn't understand. It said that the UNSC is on the brink of destruction and that Earth is pretty much screwed and Africa has been decimated. So, yea...I seriously believe that the Earth will be destroyed and the Antagonist's (The Covenant) will win. That is now, until further information is released, I can't really decide.

HAHAHA i watch too much lost and i've started to learn to read into things A LOT and put out there ANY possibilities... but it's not really THAT far fetched.... it's nowhere near as bad as some of the things i've read, but there are sooo many theories that I think anything is a good read, I like to look at what people think bout things

maybe the ark isnt on earth. maybe eath IS the arc! maybe the forruners built earth after creating the halos(this explains how terain and atmostfier is the same). then they created humans and set the arc to release thier DNA after they activated the arc.

also notice in the halo book "The Flood" MC find all the controls lok similar and somehow presses the right button every time. also 343 guilty spark ask MC in the library (in the book) why he had mark 2 armore and he didnt have mark 12.

Earth hasnt been glassed, it is seen by the covenant in the same way halo was, a holy place, their ships arent allowed to touch it.

Yeah it's standard Covenant tactics to glass enemy planets once the space defences have been destroyed. It happened to all the outer-colony worlds in the books, and it happened to Reach (a clip of which is seen at the start of Halo 2, level 1).

So I'm sure the Chief would find a way to survive, and I'm sure that the Covenant would spare the Arc-site, but everything else would be toast.

Kinda sad really...

They don't glass the planets that have an artifact on them. In the past two worlds have been spared because of this rule. Cort Azure and Reach.

Yes, it is The Ark. The Forerunners built the Gun in current earth state Pangeia.

In Africa as we know it in the game. The Covenant or Truth the prophet is going to activate the gun to wipe out all that exist so Covenant will rule supereme. But i think thart Master Cheif and The Arbiter will try to stop him. But thats New Mombasa if you look really closely at it. The highway is destroyed everything is deserted, or its in the middle of Sahara.

Anyways this makes me buy an 360 more. I wish i can go to E3 but thats over 8 hour flight from Florida. Bungie is going to make us guess about everything in the game. :D Bungie please make for the regular Xbox too its only fair.

Well i can't wait for the Desert to fight in. Also you check it out the Assualt Rifle is back! I hope we have the same sheilds from Halo 1 or 2.

Mr.Tech, Earth is indeed the Ark! The ship is the key.

There are only two things I hate in the world. People intolerant of other peoples cultures, and the Dutch

Don't hate my hands just cause they smell of cabbage.

i bet the Covanent found the artifact after they went into slipspace inside the city
there is no way they glassed the planet because they had to land on it probably not knowing where the artifact is or could there possibly be more artifacts on Earth

Just wondering... how could MC get a AR when he was in a forerunners ship... not unless they have a weapons manufacturer onboard... but the AR didn't make an appearance in the 2nd game and it's meant to apparently continue straight on from the 2nd game... however, i'm guess that the way they'll explain this is that he come into contact with that big wig guy, can't think of his name, and they suited him up with fresh weaponbs... maybe it's gotten an upgrade?

Yes, very true. If the planet was glassed, the sky would be red (If they hadn't glassed the area you would see it in the distance), plants would be dead, land would be sourched and could not be walked on by any life. Its a desert and as it has its destroyed buildings, one thats either been hit by the slip-space pulse (Although again, the plantlife and trees remain) or has come under attack by the Covies.
