Subject: Halo 3 Game Physics! Your opinion!

I'm wondering what the physics will be like when this game finally comes out. There was quite a big difference between the physics of the first two games, Halo:CEs were bouncy and fun, but predictable and very good in a slightly cartoonish way, and Halo2s were more realistic and flat, also predictable but with a toned-down grittier feel. The gritty and dirty look to the graphics on the trailer makes me think the physics will be taking a realistic path.

Which did you prefer from the first 2 games? What would you prefer in Halo 3?

I nearly forgot to say, one thing I think should come back physics-wise is being able to grenade weapons and power-ups to yourself. Not only was it a neat little trick, but it added another dimension of strategy. Anyone agree?

Realistic graphics would equal realistic physics, in my opinion. Otherwise it... wouldn't feel real?

I like a more realistic approach, actualy makes me feel like I am fighting off aliens, rather the nfighting some card board pin ups.

Realism.

Halo 2's physics seemed too "float'y-ish". Yet other things, like the Hogs, were often glued to the ground. I'd like to see the hog sway more when an explosion goes off near it. I realize that big piece of metal wouldn't fly into the sky like it did in HALO, but it would certainly cause it to flip over more often than it does. I think that bodies which don't take too much damage from explosions should definitely cause some havok for nearby enemies who just happen to get caught in the wake of these airborn corpses.

That's a fair point, but I think sometimes where Halo2's physics strove for realism they ended up a little flat and dull... just with regards to things like warthogs and explosions.

Better not have PDZ's ragdoll effect.

Well I am not sure how many of you have taken physics, but it makes sense that your character won't be able to jump 6 feet into the air. I liked the physics in Halo 2 and I want to see even more realism in physics. Some games are good with them, Like Halo 2...but some games are just impractical...so I am really looking forward to see what the new Halo 3 engine and physics will be able to do.

hmm... you realize you jump higher in Halo 2? A fair bit higher. Not that realism matters of course. Not even in the slightest.

I don't have a problem with the physics engine from either game, especially.

I liked the physics in Halo 2, but there were always a few things that bothered me. Dead bodies sometimes went into the ragdoll thing, but it always jumped around and it wasn't smooth. Say like, I'd fall off a cliff spinning around then just kind of stop where the ground was without moving, then my dead body would reappear at the top of the cliff. Kind of annoying.

Does anyone remember how you could use grenades to blow weapons or power-ups towards you and snatch them out of the air? That was a cool trick. It'd be nice if that element of the game physics made a return.
