The world is full of mysteries, and shares too few of the answers required. An example of which, is how did I end up in the Brute Zone?
If you have nothing better to do on Christmas Eve, why not read something completely pointless for 5-10 minutes?
Firstly, these might be terrible/rinsed out ideas, but whatever. Second, if this isn't the forum to say it in, then lock it.
Well, to put it simply, social status means a lot to many people. It is the reason why sites like Facebook exist. Needless to say, social status is also shown in the Bungie.net community, mainly shown through the titles. So I've been thinking of new ideas that even if I like, will be unheard. (For two reasons: My status is low, and my ideas probably suck.)
Exclusivity
If you are new onto the site, please view this. Titles (excluding specific titles e.g. forum ninjas and web team titles) allow users to be instantly recognised for how frequently they visit the site, how long they have visited the site for, and how 'appropriate' their posts are. We see something similar in the likes of the Xbox 360, achievements. Now, I personally think a personal achievements list would be fun to have on each profile, allowing a track of progress in the site. For the record, no I do not mean 'Achievement get! Troll 5 people!', I mean amounts of posts, etc.
Record tracking
This is a branch of the exclusivity point, I would love to see things like my post count. It is frequently displayed on other forums, and helps me distinguish more 'trustworthy people' from the rest. Obviously, not all people are saints, and may be on this site just to annoy people, most of these people will create second accounts, and will stick out with 5 posts compared to others with much higher post counts. (The flip side is obviously some people won't care and post on their original, but the point remains.)
But the titles are meant for fun only!
Of course they are, just like this topic is meant for just a general discussion about why Bungie.net is such a good forum. I think having things like the post count visible on each post you make might saturate the overall view, so maybe these ideas are best left on a personal basis. For example, when you view a persons XBL account through the Xbox 360, you don't see how many games they have played, what their bio is etc, you only see small, quick things like achievement scores. Maybe in an alternative service record.
I won't keep you much longer
We all know the Flood serves as an amazing method to remove the desire of destroying multiple forums by giving users a chance to keep irrelevant posts away from 'on-topic' forums. Unfortunately, a lot of 'Floodians' bite the bullet here, as it is a central hub for trolls to ruin a lot of discussions. Primo84 refers to a limitation feature in his 7 year anniversary post, saying that when a 'new' member joins, they essentially will have limited features on the site available to them until they have shown their competence. I am completely for this idea, as for new members joining the site, this time can be used to allow them to get to grips with each section in Bungie.net before they start contributing to the site themselves, and commenting on posts and articles.
Okay I've taken enough of your time, and if you have read this far, thank you for taking the time. Please leave your thoughts on this, maybe suggest some of your ideas (or ideas like these).
I've left out a lot of my personal ideas as this is my first lengthy post, and I simply might turn a lot of people away from viewing this by making it too long.
