I don't get it. Why don't you wait to announce a month or so before the release?

Because currently E3 is the best place to build up a certain amount of Hype. And very little big events stand between now and 2007. They culd have announced it at X06, but that would be a biit6 late and most likely too close to the actual releasedate 9whenever that may be).

It's so people are paying more attention to Halo 3 instead of PS3. Thier main focus for that time period is on Halo 3, and they end up buying that instead of the PS3.

Basically it's just a marketing strategy.

Do you actually think the realease of Halo 3 NEEDS hype? An putting a trailer and release "date" has only caused MORE questions. Nothing has changed. We still must go play Halo 2. No questions have been answered. They didn't even really set a date! They just made a trailer, which we all know may not be anything like the actual game.

I wish they would stop wasting time. They built the 360. Now finish the game it was created for in the first place.

Because the Halo 2 forum Zanzibar had been on its last legs for a while now, and as a parent does for a childs terminally ill gerbil, it got quietly removed, executed and placed in the bin to replaced with a new, younger model without the child noticing...

The king is dead. Long live the king.

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

Thats just how the industry works... Things get announced long before they actually come to the shelves... They're not just announcing it to us... They announcing it to their competitors as well... "This is what we have! what have you got?"... it's just like when you're a kid and you say i'll show you my toy if you show me yours. It also gives everyone a chance to get to know it's coming, not just the hardcore gamers. So they can drive sales up, having a long wait between announcement and product, by hyping everything up in the mean time.

Besides, now annoyed would you have been if they'd said nothing??

At a guess (not read the thread so this has possibly been suggested), it has been announced this early on to boost sales of the xbox 360. I mean, alot of people might have still been uncertain which console to buy, Halo 3 might have tipped it. Either way theres certainly going to be people buying the 360 simply to get Halo 3 when it comes out (along with other things obviously)

I guess my point isn't that they announced it. I guess I'm upset that it is taking so long. Halo 3 should have been released the same day the 360 was released. In fact, it should come with the console.

Theres this little thing that helps sell products in a consumer driven world.... its a little thing called HYPE!!! This next year is going to be hype hype hype over this game, Xbox 360 will sell like crazy due to this announcement people will think twice before looking at a PS3 because there will never be halo for it. There is going to be so much that this game will sell better then anyother game ever in its first day.

Final word = Hype

Good guess. But with a release date of sometime in 2007, they won't be selling any 360's due to this announcement any time soon.

That would only have given bungie like 2 years to make the game from when Halo 2 came out...Given that they didn't even have the 360 Dev Kits until around the time of the 360 launch, i think it's a very big ask...Besides give them a break... Everyone needs a rest now and then... They've been working on the halo series for almost 8 years now... i'd bet they're getting really sick of it..

It could be in 7 months for all you know. 2007 isn't a year and a half away.

Showing trailers a while before release is just a company's way of building hype. That's all.

There are two main release schedules for the year though... Basically Summer and Winter...

Not that it'll need to be released at any one point to sell well... but microsoft know they're business, so it'll probably be released when it'll have the biggest impact...

Sure. Are you trying to convice me that the release of the greatest game of all time won't be done in relation to Christmas? It has ALWAYS been that way. The flagship games are always released in the 4th quarter to help with the Christmas rush. I may be dumb but I'm not stupid. If they were going to release it in early 2007, they would have said that. Look for Oct or Nov 2007 release.

Expect the Bungie community to whinge and stomp their feet because Bungie isn't telling them what game they're making, and to start to ask why Bungie didn't keep the announcement for later as soon as the company announces their new project.

You guys are really unbelievable. This community is one in a billion internets.

* To steel the attention away from the PS3 Lanch announcement.
* To maintain interest in the series while temporarily quelling everyone's hunger for a new Halo game. By the way, BUNGIE did this with Halo 2 as well.
