I have thought of an interesting theory, and it goes like this:
( i am assuming the Ark is on earth and it activiates all the remaning Halos)
Say "somebody" actives the Ark, be it Truth to bring up the Whole Religious thing, or the Chief does it to destroy the Flood or even some "random" A.I. goes crazy and decides it's best to just Kill Everybody... Anyway, If the Ark is Activated and the remaining Halo's Wipe out all Sentient life .. pretty much everywhere... then Eventually Life will "Begin Again" like it did when the Forerunners activated the halos.
So ... here's comes the wild card. Mabye the "Halo" series is set ... Several *relavent numbers e.g Millions / billions * years ago. I know it is set roughly around 2400 ... But 2400 years since when? it never says A.D. or w/e ... i relise they are using space relavent time keeping, and the books explain it, but i'm lazy and not gon'a re-read them ..
So I thought i'd just put my idea out there and see what holes there are in it ... please be kind .... :)

could be true, i also thought about it irl, cause some guys think we will Wipe Ourselves out, and Restart Again, maybe at year 0.. well, it is possible in the game, but about irl its just a lie/rumor

It's just a theory that I put forward, i don't do research or common sense cos i am Lazy! + i wanted others to find the holes in it (again Lazy) . I just like the whole Time Travelling and Alternate universe parts of Sci-Fi ... Please keep telling me why it won't work

i kind of thought of the same thing when i saw the grunt yield sign in the halo3 preview trailer - what if MC is in our past in the clip, and the covenant have this great civilization built (though it does look pretty beat up) which gets wiped out by the halos / the ark - maybe the covenant are the forerunners? either the yield sign is a joke or the covenant have been on earth way longer in this clip than we assume it's been since the end of halo2

Yer i agree it's pretty easy to dis-prove my idea, but still i just like the idea of Killing Just about All living thing Over And Over . Again And Again .... that's just me then .....lol .. (i hid this as Far away as possible) does anything think We might have the option at the end to Press the Big Red Button ?? (Activate Halos)
i mean not just for the Sheer hell of it , but for some Comples Plot Reason?

interesting theory, mine is somewhat similer. I think the ark is earth and what happend was the flood took over the universe and the forrunners (actually our ancestors) activated halos and fled to the ark. i think it fits very well.

EDIT: another peice of evidance or clue is that guilty spark calls humans reclaimers so why are humans the reclaimers and not the covies? cuz we are the forerunners!

I wholly agree with Bodyditch, although I have only one piece of info to go off of. Somewhere in the Special Edition DVD or on the first Halo game under demos, the making of Halo 2 video says something about this.

"We really want it to feel like that there was history there there was ummm there's damage that exisited from some battle that happened 900,000 years ago." -Marcus Lehto (Art Director)

All clues from guilty spark says we are the forerunners even though this is not relevant. Because the Halos and therefore the ARK pretty much wipes out everything that's good and true about existance, maybe it's not to far a strech to see how we wouldn't notice signs of this happening before.
