A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

One thing I was always unhappy about in H2 was the relatively narrow point of view you have in first person. About 70 degrees, if you didn't know. Now I can understand why this was somewhat; those extra 20 degrees mean that more textures have to be rendered, more objects and enemies rendered, and so on. And the xbox wasn't able to cope with it (you can see objects change texture or disappear on the edges of your field of view).

But since the 360 should easily be able to cope, I think we should get our 90 degree field of view back. Not merely for realism, but for gameplay purposes too.

Thoughts?

Agreed. Guys, everyone who is a Halo fan. This game will be awesome. There will be nothing bad about it. It will be better then H2, some may disagree but thats oppinion. It will be better due to it being on the 360. Bungie will take advantage of it, it will be awesome.

I agree, but wouldn't having a 70 degree field of view perhaps account for, in terms of realism, the helmet the Master Chief wears? But then again, I'm sure the helmet of the Mjolnir armour allows for perfectly normal viewing. But yes, in conclusion, I'd much prefer a 90 degree field of view.

I sort of agree...because... the thing is I recently got Halo 2 running in proper 16:9 480p (not easy in the PAL region) and the F.O.V is bigger. I agree it should have the 90 degree FOV, but I think Halo 2 does if only you can display it to it's full potential.

do NOT say this will be a perfect game. The same was said about Halo 2, and when they found out the game wasn't what they wanted they had sissy fits. There will be problems with Halo 3 if you want to believe it or not.

I would like to see a bigger field of view, gameplay wise it would be really nice.
