Not true for me as I play Call of Duty 2 where it is like you said, all weapons have recoil. Almost all weapons you can't even have a cross hair while standing up and moving full speed. The only exception is the shotgun in that game. Most of the time, except the shotgun, you have to hold "L" and aim down the sights/scope in order to get a good hit.
Well I comend you on that...if you're any good that is. =p
The casual gamer doesn't like realism and they seems to be what Halo is geard towards. Most people don't want to handle recoil or actually *gasp* aim their shots. They want the easiest kill possible so they can move on to another fight quickly. Which is why the pistol is so popular. You see a guy and in a second the fight is over. No one appreciates a good, intense battle anymore.
I remember playing Socom 2 online and having minute long shoot outs with people. Not because neither of us could aim, but because of the skill involved. We'd both be using a lot of cover and be trying to get out alive with taking as little damage possible. Popping out behind corners and taking shots at the other, etc. Those intense fights are more fun than the Halo:CE style *Bang*Bang*Bang*Dead*. Next fight....
That's what I like to see in Halo as well. Actual fights, people using skill and strategy, not mindless run-and-gun tactics.
One of the main arguments against the pistol was that it was not realistic, so i dont know where you are coming from with that.
I dont know if you have had a memory like this but, when you were describing socom I rembered pistol fighting inbetween the "cement blocks" on hang em high. the drawn out cat and mouse game would useually end with someone charging from cover with a AR burst.
The things you describe in Socom are things i rember from halo 1, we truely have had different expirences. You should try playing halo on XBC
