playing halo then to halo 2 then to halo 3... you won't notice much difference.... but if you go from halo to halo 3.... you would notice how... OLD Halo CE looks its... they won't bring back the pistol for reasons like... it is old, they dumped it for a reason, it was on the P.Autumn, its to bulky to be a sidearm (its original intension)

This can be solved by the "reskinning" argument. That is begining to look the most likely due to the fact that the reintroduction pistol is going to need to be two handed, and realistic. This is only based of the comments so far.

I agree. The old pistol on halo CE was retarded. Totally messed up the multiplayer! Nobody wants it back.

Bungie may have replaced the pistol with a weaker version, but I don't hear people mentioning the battle rifle; a more believable replacement for the pistol. It had the scope of the pistol, the range of the pistol, and the damage of the pistol.

i always thought how in halo 1, how my brother could snipe me with a pistol, before i could get him with a sniper..killed cuz he would knock me out of scope and kill me very fast

There has been a ton of mentions of the BR. The arguments against it as a "full" replacement which we all want, is the ROF, the burst, the range, and of course the strength which is highly debatable.

I dont know what you meant by damage because the pistol killed in three, and the BR kills in 4.

We realise the extreme similarities, but as a replacement the BR just leaves a bitter sweet taste in your mouth when you remeber the pistol.

Not true for me as I play Call of Duty 2 where it is like you said, all weapons have recoil. Almost all weapons you can't even have a cross hair while standing up and moving full speed. The only exception is the shotgun in that game. Most of the time, except the shotgun, you have to hold "L" and aim down the sights/scope in order to get a good hit.

Well I comend you on that...if you're any good that is. =p

The casual gamer doesn't like realism and they seems to be what Halo is geard towards. Most people don't want to handle recoil or actually *gasp* aim their shots. They want the easiest kill possible so they can move on to another fight quickly. Which is why the pistol is so popular. You see a guy and in a second the fight is over. No one appreciates a good, intense battle anymore.

I remember playing Socom 2 online and having minute long shoot outs with people. Not because neither of us could aim, but because of the skill involved. We'd both be using a lot of cover and be trying to get out alive with taking as little damage possible. Popping out behind corners and taking shots at the other, etc. Those intense fights are more fun than the Halo:CE style *Bang*Bang*Bang*Dead*. Next fight....

That's what I like to see in Halo as well. Actual fights, people using skill and strategy, not mindless run-and-gun tactics.

One of the main arguments against the pistol was that it was not realistic, so i dont know where you are coming from with that.

I dont know if you have had a memory like this but, when you were describing socom I rembered pistol fighting inbetween the "cement blocks" on hang em high. the drawn out cat and mouse game would useually end with someone charging from cover with a AR burst.

The things you describe in Socom are things i rember from halo 1, we truely have had different expirences. You should try playing halo on XBC

we r?

the pistol is balanced weapon, it should be left alone. So what if it takes 3 shots to kill someone, it's a magnum, so what if it's accurate, it's master chief, so what?

Nothing should be changed about this weapon at all.

When it comes to the amount of damage the BR does compared to the Pistol I think that it is fairly comprable and slightly more balanced

I have no gripes about the power of the pistol, i just think it should be reskinned as a rifle so it was a bit more believable as a weapon. besides, one of the main reasons bungie toned down the power of the pistol was because of dual wielding, it would have been nuts using two old pistols at once!

thats why its a video game you moron. have you noticed you can kill people with 2 melee attacks?

is THAT unrealistic????

Considering in real life you can kill someone by braining them in the head with a rifle in one hit(using the proper technique, not swinging it like a baseball bat), Id say Halo is pretty realistic in that aspect.

I think in both halo 1 and 2 you could use either the pistol or battle rifle, respectively, to pretty much determine how you wanted most fights to go. If you are good enough with either, you should have the ability to keep your opponent as far away as you want to.

That's why I'm saying bring it back exactly the same except make it a 5 shot kill. You would at least have time to react after being hit a couple of times.

I say keep the Magnum, maybe un-nerf it just a little though,to make it a little more effective as a fall back weapon. The ol' M6C was great for multiplayer, but was nowhere realistic.

The old pistol was terrible. I mean, it was brilliant.. But it was terribly unrealistic.

Seriously. What guy, even a Spartan, could weild a handgun and shoot at 100% accuracy for miles... It's just not meant to be,

Unrealism doesn't matter. In halo 1, the only thing that could protect you from a guy 5 feet in front of you with rockets was the pistol. With the pistol you at least stood a chance. Have you noticed that in h2 the people who usually win are the power-weapon holders? The pistol is what gave the game balance.

If you have a BR and are at anything less than super close range it's very possible to beat a sniper rifle or rocket launcher at least half of the time

Its a "magnum" one of the most powerful pistols in the world today. I think the pistol in halo1 was a little over powered tho. Please bungie make the pistol have a scope in halo3 and make it have a little less range then in halo1 but about as powerful as before the auto update for halo2. Also please make the shotguns range a little longer then having network host and please make the shotguns shells wide shots as in where the shells spread out like a real shotgun.

Also please make the Rl and nades explosions bigger then in halo2. Also please make the sword run on power for mutilplayer. Also please make it where if you aim at the head or the heart it would hurt more then any other part of the body for all guns. Please please bungie i know this game will be great but i want the guns more realistic. Yes i know this isn't ghost recon i just want the guns a little more realistic and what i already said.

I agree with the magnum comment. A Magnum handgun today has the power to take off half your head. All that needs to be done to balance the H1 pistol is remove the scope. That way it's effective range is taken down by a lot.

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

The pistol was awesome in Halo. But they couldn't bring it back to Halo 2, because you can dual-wield. That would be totally unbalanced. So they replaced the pistol with a non dual-wieldable weapon, AKA, the Battle Rifle. However they made it 4 headshots instead of 3 to sort of balance it.

I'm back! To bump this thread and throw in some more points!

Now, something ghost91 said a couple pages back was, if the pistol was re-implemented should it come in form of a rifle to appease blah blah blah. realism. Okay I for one support "unrealistic" factor that comes with this game (I mean common, I can flip a tank mk?) there is a line that needs to be drawn somewhere, however. Let's look at the core argument for people who want the pistol back (please feel free to correct me if you want to add or I'm way off)

-It made multiplayer very fun because it was so balanced. Everyone had the pistol! And it took skill to wield such a weapon and win when everyone's on equal playing ground.

Oh how I agree with every pistol lover there. A balanced game=Fun for all, less whining (unless of course you're playing with teh nubz). But let's step outside the box for a minute. Halo is an FPS and one of the core elements of an FPS is teh gunz because gunz=DIVERSE gameplay and this is where my head hits the wall. I've seen many posts on here refering to the M6D pistol as god and when it you boil it down, the M6D pistol was the god of Halo CE. Now we're all thinking "why take god out of the game"? Gooooood question.

Here's why from my point of view. A game like this NEEDS a certain amount of DIVERSITY in GAMEPLAY. Everyone running around wielding one godly weapon is NOT DIVERSITY everyone has to agree with that. I'm going to tell everyone right now that if this game had one UBER weapon it would kill gameplay as it stands. What it needs is to work in a rock-paper-scissors fashion (ok, maybe not that simplistic but hopefully you get what I mean) as in Weapon A counters Weapon B but Weapon C counters A and B counters C and so on. I'm all but certain that the developers will be using some kind of method similar to the above to design to balance the playing field and make you really THINK HARD about what weapons you want to take in to battle. To me that's where the real skill lies; in the thought process meaning even if you have amazing pistol skills the guy who got in close picked up a shotgun a blew your brains out is the player to beat.

To Summarize for all you lazy's: The M6D pistol led to singular gameplay of everyone using the same gun. Halo 3 needs diverse gameplay to add to re-playability, to compete with other FPS's and to make ME happy. If the latter is done correctly trust me when I say it would blow that old relic out of the water.

Gah hopefully I did'nt miss anything, remember folkes this is just my personal opinion taker with a grain o salt please. Or flame, whichever. I need to catch some Z's. I'll be back.
