This topic needs a resolution, it's been puttering on for way to long.
The Pros-
+It's what made Halo's multiplayer great.
+Spawning with a good weapon gave you a chance.
+It balanced the multiplayer.
+It was the go-to campaign weapon.
I never used it in the campaign till after playing it online a few months later and saw just what it could do. I always left it when I first played the campaign. But, this really isn't about the campaign, it's about multiplayer. Lets face it, multiplayer is where the replay value is. I've played Halo 1 several times throught the story, yet it probably doesn't account for 95% of total game time. I've played thousands and thousands of hours of Halo 1 on XBC. Personally, I think they need to have two sets of weapons. One for campaign and one for MP. After all, what works in the story against grunts doesn't always work well in MP against thinking, dancing targets.
The Cons-
-Dule pistols could topple the United States standing Army.
-It's a freaking PISTOL that kills in 3 shots.
-It's a freaking PISTOL, but it was the best weapon in the game.
-It made weapon selecting much less interesting in Halo:CE.
-It had a scope.
It did NOT have a scope...please stop saying that
Here's the deal. The pistol should not return.
Let's look back at Halo:CE:
Under normal circumstances, playing an average player, the following would occur 90% of the time.
*If you fought it with anything but a shotgun at close range, you'd lose.
Not true at all. I've killed tons of people with my assualt rifle who had a pistol at close range.
*If you fought it with anything but a rocket medium range, you'd lose.
*If you fought it with anything but a sniper long range, you'd lose.
Think of campaign, think of your choice weapon your weapon was...a pistol. Our boys in Iraq, how many of them only carry an M9 as a main weapon. Think how stupid that would look.
WWII, how many GIs carried .45s as there weapon, and how many Germans fired on the beaches of Normandy with Lugers?
Dosen't that mental immage look ridiculous? Well that's how Halo:CE's campaign felt, and that's how Halo 3's will feel if we put in Halo:CE's pistol.
This gun has a scope. Mabey if it didn't have a zoom, and if it fired slower, it would be acceptable, but in it's current form, it's a sin against multiplayer games everywhere.
Again, I never really used the pistol in the campaign when I first started playing Halo 1. I couldn't use it very well and choose an AR over the pistol. It wasn't until I played online that I learned how to use the pistol well and started using it when I'd go back to the campaign. That was a good few months after I first played the game.
