The Pros-
+It's what made Halo's multiplayer great.
+Spawning with a good weapon gave you a chance.
+It balanced the multiplayer.
+It was the go-to campaign weapon.
I pretty much agree with all of that, except the first. While it helped make Halo 1 great, it wasn't the only factor.
The Cons-
-Dule pistols could topple the United States standing Army.
I agree, dual Halo 1 pistols would be very bad. But all Bungie would have to do is make it a non-dual wield weapon. Sure some people would complain about the realism: "BUT GUYS ITS A PISTOL HOW COME MC CANT HOLD TWO?" But when it comes down to it, the game should be fun over realistic.
-It's a freaking PISTOL that kills in 3 shots.
-It's a freaking PISTOL, but it was the best weapon in the game.
I really hate this argument becuase if the Pistol was skinned as a rifle no one would care. Again, Halo isn't supposed to be a realistic game, play Rainbow Six if you want that.
-It made weapon selecting much less interesting in Halo:CE.
I guess it kind of did, but you could say the same thing about the BR in Halo 2. In MLG gametypes, no one drops the BR.
-It had a scope.
No it didn't. You know the little bump on top of the gun by the muzzle? That is a little camera that is linked to MC's armor.
*If you fought it with anything but a shotgun at close range, you'd lose.
Not true, all these guns have an advantage over the pistol in close range:
AR (if you were skilled with melee)
PR (if you were skilled with melee)
Shotty (like you said)
Rocket (if you could place it behind them so you don't get caught in the blast)
*If you fought it with anything but a rocket medium range, you'd lose.
Thats basicly true, except you forgot one thing. Everyone had a pistol (well at least in the most played gametypes) so even if you didn't have a rocket you still had an even chance with the person.
*If you fought it with anything but a sniper long range, you'd lose.
If anyone tries using a shotgun at long range, they deserve to be killed. Also, again, everyone has the pistol.
Think of campaign, think of your choice weapon your weapon was...a pistol. Our boys in Iraq, how many of them only carry an M9 as a main weapon. Think how stupid that would look.
WWII, how many GIs carried .45s as there weapon, and how many Germans fired on the beaches of Normandy with Lugers?
Dosen't that mental immage look ridiculous? Well that's how Halo:CE's campaign felt, and that's how Halo 3's will feel if we put in Halo:CE's pistol.
This gun has a scope. Mabey if it didn't have a zoom, and if it fired slower, it would be acceptable, but in it's current form, it's a sin against multiplayer games everywhere.
Again, Halo isn't supposed to be played as a realistic shooter. Its just ment to be fun.
