(skip to TL;DR if you're really lazy)

Too many valid suggestions are made without being noticed. This thread, per se, is a suggestion. The Bungie Scheduler Thread is a suggestion. A lot of them are made every week, and, although Achronos has stated that they do mean a lot to the Web Team, I believe that many of them are posted, read, and approved by the Community without actually being seen by those it needs to be seen by: the Web Team. The whole purpose, really, of posting a suggestions thread is hoping that Achronos or someone else important will see your thread, like it, and take note of it and possibly implement it in the future. I've seen a lot of great suggestions that probably haven't been noticed by the Web Team, and I think that they should be.

It would also be convenient if we were able to access any of these improvement suggestions at any time if they were organized in some way. It would be a good idea, I think, to have some sort of thread or group or something else of that nature where suggestions or improvements could be posted, so as to increase organization, accessibility, and the chance of the suggestion being legitimately considered as a future implementation to the site.

I see this idea as being able to work in one of two ways:

Admin Thread
DeeJ or urk or Achronos or sawnose or someone could make a thread, and ask that all suggestions be posted within. This idea is less preferable because it would defeat the idea of accessibility, as a ton of stupid/useless/joke (sorry) suggestions may be posted, as well as discussion other than just the posting of suggestions. I wouldn't really go for this.

Group
Pretty self-explanatory. Someone (preferably an Admin, such as one of the aforementioned, so that a lot of people will join simply because their name is on it) makes a group, and within, suggestions are posted. The key element to this idea is that members of the Web Team are members of this group, and that they will check up on the group on occasion. They don't need to check up on it every day, but hopefully around once a month. The way the group would work is flexible, but basically here's what I had in mind:

Someone would make the group. We'll say Achronos for this example. He promotes someone else trustworthy, who comes here often, with full control, like tMBxjsFsahdsfboY or SJ, for example. Basically, they'd moderate the group, and have some sort of pinned thread that they'd update whenever a suggestion is made for Achronos to check up on so he wouldn't have to go through the whole forum to find them. So, if the Scheduler idea were posted in the group, the Group Admin would be like "kcool" and add it to the pinned thread, in a list of some sort. Achronos could check out any new additions made to the thread monthly, note any he likes, and anyone else that wanted to find theirs or another's suggestion can also. Everyone wins.

So, what do you guys think?

TL;DR: I think we need somewhere to put all the suggestions to make them more organized and accessible, as well as to enable the Web Team to read most of the suggestions made by the Community.

Spread the love...

Yeah, an organized suggestion place would be really nice. I think a Group would work best because those that post off-topic stuff can just get banned.

"Find The Bomb?!
Find The Bomb?!
I'm Looking For The Flag!
What The Heck Is Assualt!?"

I don't see why we need a group or a thread.

Suggestions are already an integral purpose of the Septagon, it isn't like creating a new place to give them will get them more considered by the Webteam.

Meh, I suppose you're right, but it'd still be cooler to have them easier to access. After they die, they're gone unless you've saved them.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

That is a good suggestion.

But I feel that threads that are "too big" or focus on multiple topics in one often can have the importance of some serious issues be "misplaced".

While your intentions are no doubt pure Christian, we already have a place for this. The community is such a place.

Your idea is right, however it arises from the solution to the incorrect problem. The issue which requires resolving is this: there are too many people with terrific suggestions. If and when such a thread or place becomes open to the public, it will be subject to the same tense commentary that the mains encompass.

With everyone spitting out ideas and no one attempting to better the community themselves, no wonder there are troubles that are still left to tackle.

<Solution>

A communal effort to better ourselves without requesting authoritative intervention, and respectively raising notice to people with good ideas.

I don't necessarily like the "one group-" or "one thread to rule them all" mentality presented so far either, but I do think there needs to be some better way to document them. Dazarobbo just made a 700 reply long thread about the ignore feature. But now it's going to get buried and, while Achronos saw it and may have written a thing or two down in his Notebook of Updatery, there have been threads LIKE this that have gone un-noticed (publicly, anyway) by the Web Team or even a Bungie Employee at all.

  • 12.25.2011 10:07 PM PDT

The topics that anyone actually cares about get remade on a weekly basis anyways, so it's essentially impossible for them NOT to see the suggestions.

That's the main concern. Even earlier you were like "-blam!-, that one thread by daz about some feature, can't find it." Yeah, this is supposed to stop that.

I dunno, you'd be suprised by how much downtime they have waiting for code to compile...

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. Does compiling code actually require that much time?

Sorry if I sound stupid.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I seem to remember having a suggestion thread once. I think it was pinned, and became so big that you couldn't really read through it anymore to see if what you were looking for had been suggested. It was pretty successful for awhile, but it wore out its welcome. Though, I could be making all of this up or perhaps I'm thinking about another forum altogether.

Regardless, I see nothing wrong with something like this. I don't think its needed, because we know that the Webteam peruses the Septagon quite a bit. Though while not needed, I still see either suggestion as potentially beneficial.

Interestingly, I read "We should get thread and group suggestions" as the title initially, and could not agree more. If we had a working tag system, Bungie could suggest groups or threads based on what we've already read/joined that was similarly tagged. I don't mean to derail this topic with this though, so please discuss the real purpose of this thread here.

Yeah it takes a while.

:O

Holy -blam!-. Yeah, yeah, like, when you found a group or something, enter tags, like "gaming" or "video" or for people like just another fan stuff like "critic" or "movie". It doesn't matter, this is a suggestion thread about a suggestion thread, you can post suggestions in it.

Suggestionception.

Okay.

Make the group, post the thread.

But it wouldn't work that way.

Well, I guess I could just be in a group by myself and post a lot of the suggestion threads I see there. Yeah, I'll do that.

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

I don't think is needed. I'm pretty sure that the employee, come to the community forum alot. This is the forum where you talk about the bungie community , so they probably come here to look for some suggestions from the community. Excellent idea, but i'd rather have them in separate threads.

Herp

Sounds like a cool idea

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I had a few minutes of down time after reading this thread to create a nice little group. Sure it's tiny now and not at all serious, but it could be... one day (not likely).

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

The only thing I would change about your group idea would be that you should increase the number of community group admins. If there is just one person who puts ideas in the official pinned thread then they have all of the power to determine what the webteam sees. Having more people would give the group some form of check on each admin's power.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I'll just leave this here.

While it was after the New Hawtness, Achronos did exactly what you've requested here in the past. In my personal opinion, it would be a nightmare tredging through threads like those on a day to day basis; it's far simpler to let the threads flow to gather opinions and expectations - then make a thread with concentrated suggestions like above. It's a great way to let ideas just "go" (in a positive direction) and settle in the minds of The Community then see later on what we(it) really want(s).

TL;DR: Repeat threads are a muck, but it's a great way to see what a large group wants - especially if the ideas show up in one of the threads linked above.

Besides, repeat threads of ideas are a great way to spread the discussion of an idea and its pro's and con's. Sadly though, they more often turn into beating a dead horse - that's why we have the Webteam.

Post the thread, go through every page of the past year or two to find ideas and link them all to your OP.

Take action. Make things. Have fun.
