I'd have to play it again just to figure out the distance, but my longest shot was in the Geth explore mission in ME1 (with the dropship deploying more geth until destroyed). It's at the base of a mountain, I was at the opposite mountain peak, the Geth were tiny and I was sniping them. Fairly sure it was greater then 500 meters.

I'm talking preferences, but I'd think an infiltrator Shepard (aka mine) who is a sniper by nature will be able to spot and take out Chief first. Against Linda it'd be a more even sniper duel.

I remember that part. I think that's where I think I got mine. It was awhile ago. However, I've gotten a few farther shots than that in BF3.

Against Linda the sniping wouldn't be even fair. Linda would out-snipe Shepard any day of the week.

Opinion. Just because she's a spartan doesn't mean she'd instantly out-snipe Shepard.

I'm not seeing how Chief can automatically sneak up and instantly win every battle. I'm not seeing how Linda magically will always have the upper hand.

Well seeing as the only way we can determine is via feats and skills.

Linda:
Faster
Stronger
Smarter
better trained
trained longer
more combat experience
Has better stealth feats(Counting the stealth feats of other SPARTANs aswell)
has better sniping feats

Shepard:
?
?
?
better guns

The fact is that SPARTANs have FAR better feats than Shepard, aswell as just straight up being better in every physical aspect. Shepard does have better guns, but if his enemy is better than him in every way, it doesn't really matter.

An example of a feat is Linda getting richocete kills on banshees flying at full speed while she had a broken arm, was holding the sniper rifle with one hand, dangling from a rope, and at presumably a considerable range.

Another would be drilling 4 rounds in rapid succesion right into a sentinal that was flying vertically 2km above her.

I've already shown SPARTAN stealth feats.

So how about you show me some comparable feats from Shepard?

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

This thread should be locked for its sheer bias and stupidity seeing how the OP tried overpowering "shepard" since he wouldn't' have all of those abilities in the game. Not to mention he rejects shepard being bested by any means.

Shepard does not exist; You are commander shepard. This is no different than the "Lone Wanderer" or "Stranger" in Fallout. So until Bioware officially comments on the entire dossier on "shepard" any discussion is futile since people are asserting their Shepard into this thread.

  • 01.16.2012 7:17 PM PDT

Okay, where does it say she had a broken arm? I can't find a reference of that nor do I remember one when I had read the books.

Edit: Yeah, I may be a little biased for Shepard, but I'll simply point out that just because a foe is "better in every way." does not mean they will always have victory or the upper hand.

If we wanted to go that route how many different fictional universes would have their heroes crushed instantly?

Edit2: Just going to say, bright green MJOLNIR armor isn't stealthy in a range of locations.

Edit3: About combat experiance, wouldn't Shepard's be better? Chief may have fought a long time, but Shepard has fought, and beaten, a more diverse array of foes using different tactics.

Thank you for being the only one to admit it thought it was obvious. That doesn't matter, Biotics are not a big enough cop out to save "shepard".

Pfft, my Shepard doesn't use biotics :P. Unless you count heavy warp ammo as that <_<.

Sorry, looked back. Wasn't a broken arm, but she was injured pretty badly immediatly prior to the mission. Regardless, it doesn't take away from the feat. Simply trying to point out as many flaws because you cannot provide a sniping feat that can compare at all.

: Yeah, I may be a little biased for Shepard, but I'll simply point out that just because a foe is "better in every way." does not mean they will always have victory or the upper hand.

Better in every way would mean that that person is most likely to win. There is a chance that I could beat a world champion pool player, but in reality that is not going to happen. That's why, scientifically speaking, you allow for a 5% fluctuation. However, Master Chief, because he is better in almost every way, is going to win at least 75% of the time on average. Given a 5% change, it would still be 30% Shepard vs 70% Master Chief.

If we wanted to go that route how many different fictional universes would have their heroes crushed instantly?

Except these fictional characters are always better in one way or another that allows them to pull off a win, or have a deus ex machina. PIS(Plot Induced Stupidity) is not counted.

Also, can't the same be said for Master Chief? He routinely fights enemies that beat him in certain aspects, and in larger numbers aswell. Merely saying "Shepard has beat enemies that are better than him, so he can beat Master Chief" is baseless. We have to look at skills, feats, and equipment. Master Chief comes in ahead in skills and feats, and only falls behind a little in equipment.

going to say, bright green MJOLNIR armor isn't stealthy in a range of locations.

First, its not bright at all. Second, you are ignoring that SPARTANs are masters at blending into the shadows. It's not like Master chief is going to intentionally walk into an area with no cover or ways to stealth.

: About combat experiance, wouldn't Shepard's be better? Chief may have fought a long time, but Shepard has fought, and beaten, a more diverse array of foes using different tactics

Master chief has fought humans, grunts, jackals, hunters, brutes, buggers, elites, and the various forms of Flood. Not to mention routinely encountering multiple vehicle types that he has dispatched on foot. To my knowlegde, Shepard rarely encounters vehicles on foot.

Halo 3 is the most current coloration, so showing a picture from Halo 2 is pointless.

Regardless of that, he would stick out like a sore thumb in any non-urban/jungle environment as proven in the halo 3 level halo (with all that snow and stuff) and in tsavo highway-the storm.

At least it is better camouflage than Kelly's stark white armor that is impractical for anything outside a snow environment.

True, but that was just for Legends, so meh.

Anything non-urban or jungle?

What about Boreal forrest? Grasslands? Temperate Forest? Basically anywhere with sufficient shadows work aswell(Because people keep forgetting the whole, S-IIs are masters at blending in with shadows and they won't walk into areas where they can be seen easily)

P.S.
You could blend into the Tsavo Highway level fairly easily, in real life anyways. In Halo 3 you can't go prone, slip into the shadows, or really use stealth at all.

The only environments that he would stick out 100% of the time would be straight tundra or desert. Anywhere with cover, shadows, obstructions, fuana, ect.. would work.

p.s.
