Subject: What validates skill in Reach?

Arena has always been one-dimensional and broken, MLG is technically social, and every other playlist is social. No ranks. You got kids making threads about "Post Your Rank" as if an experience emblem signifies skill.

Why is that even called a rank? That's what makes Reach broke in the first place. "Ranks" aren't that. Stats are meaningless, and why is that? Where's the Trueskill system in matchmaking?

We're just gonna have to wait till Halo 4 to see who's good and who's bad. Hopefully.

Nothing.

Gameplay.

If someone beats me, then they are better.
If they lose, they are worse than me.

Simple?

Because it's a video game.

MLGZBNS?

  • 12.26.2011 4:00 PM PDT

In Halo 3 the players were largely broken into two groups. Either competitive players in ranked or casual in social. (I know this wasn't always true but I'm sure we can all admit it mostly was) TrueSkill seemed to mostly cope when the game was like this, but when you break down that barrier and put everyone in one group it seems to fail.

I like this game, but the way it seems to match people up at times is a bit annoying. (1 team of total LWs versus an entire partied team, competitive experienced MLG players versus a team of noobs and guests...)

Lol whatever dude

If you legitimately cared about skillgap and having competitive games, you'd be searching MLG 24/7. You match parties quite often in that playlist and you meet some good players in there too.

You wouldn't have 878 games of Living Dead if you care about skillgap. Also, if you want a hardcore shooter experience, try PC shooters like Counterstrike. Most console shooters are considered casual.

lol@ OP for leaving the thread.

Keep in mind too that the Trueskill system that Reach uses does not account for teams of players that consistantly play together. A player that works togther with the same team game after game will do better than a player of equal skill playing with random teammates. Put simply, comparing statics between players is not straight forward. Regards.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

The number of Firebird medals one has is an indication of his or her skill.

Here everybody let me answer your questions got to halo tracker type the person you want to see and there you go look at their stats and you can still look at the Halo 3 type ranking system from 1-50 skill. Your welcome

As for any in-game mechanics that are supposed to automatically display ones skill: there's Arena, which, to be honest, lolololol, and that's it.

...and as for things such as kill-death, min-loss, etc. Those figures are used in any game similar to Halo to display "skill". But as for in-game, on-engine features, there's lolArena.

Also, the global ranks in Reach do not signify any skill whatsoever. None, none at all. Just experience ("experience" as in what the word defines, not EXP points or anything of any sort).

DMR + Sniper Rifle + Sprint= total demolish

I think bungie was trying to make Reach less competitive and promote having fun and being able to chill out in a nice game of halo. Because that's what defines halo.

I agree on this one ^^
Add melee as ToD and some Rejections and we have a super skilled player.
