I think bungie was trying to make Reach less competitive and promote having fun and being able to chill out in a nice game of halo. Because that's what defines halo.
Did you even play CE?

Always up for REACH customs!

Your win/loss ratio, if you always play with randoms.

For example, I never play Anniversary BTB with a full party, and I won 67% of my games in that playlist, therefore I am good at that playlist.

but who you play with isn't tracked...i've played 90% of my games with randoms, barely any games with a full party, yet my KD is great in most games and specific playlists...of course overall it's gonna suffer

Just because you win 67% of your games that doesn't mean you're good.

No... WAY!

You can be several kinds of good in a game. For instance, I recognize my skill as a driver, over many others, and I consider myself fairly good with the Grenade launcher.

Others might be ridiculously good with a sniper, and others be great gunners and rocketeers.

I'd say KDR has to do with it of course. Versatility would be another factor, can you be good with all weapons and different situations? But probably the thing I take into consideration is how I perform when facing players at my skill level or higher.

The number of Firebird medals one has is an indication of his or her skill.

There's no real "skill" in playing online. Too many variables. Want a fair match? Splitscreen or LAN

I'm going to have to go with this. When I'm playing with a few friends it's mostly casual play. Whenever we do run into a large group of people (we mostly play BTB or SWAT), that's when we see the indication of skill on players. I've never ventured off into the MLG section of the game and plan to not do so. My friends are casual gamers and I'm here for the social aspect.

Which is great but what Bungie did is not only make Reach much jmore social but completly left the competetive community with nothing but a joke of a ranking system.

I have one friend that has a 2.5+ KDR on Halo: Reach, but do not consider him much of a skillful player. He's one of those guys that will stand in the very back of an invasion game and get the few kills while rarely dying. People can abuse the objective based games for their own gain.

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

Having an opinion that somebody with higher stats agrees with.

In short - sucking up to the "good" players.

Bring back 1-50 in the next game and more ranked playlists gurantee the tryhards in this game would stop complaining.

The same can be said about most FPS games. Gaining a certain rank, prestige and etc. only takes time to gain. We can pick among those we play who have skill. There's no further indication that is needed after a round or two of play. I know I usually view the commendations of Multiplayer, to see how well rounded my opponent is.

Exactly but Halo was not like most FPS games it revolusionized the FPS imo. It was always trueskill based and 1-50 was great. I'm not quite sure why people say that it was easily maniulated because so is arena currently.

And so God called Moses to come forth but he came fifth and was therefore disqualified.

I snipe. I get headshots. I forge. I don't know what determines skill, but I think I am ok either way.

I never really played Halo 3 online, other than a few times on my friend's account. Halo Reach is my first Halo title that I've taken in account for. This whole 1-50 scale that people are crying for seems to be a way for those ego-craved psychos to get off. That single number alone can determine if you're really skilled or not. Craving towards the lower in number in population, heavily skilled players. Reach's commendations, rank, arena, medals and etc should be enough for people. They have to go with the flow and gather casuals. The ranking system adds a bit of reward that most games typically try to aim for. I know I'm celebrating when I finally reach Field Marshall this solstice break. If they pander to the hardcore crowd and go with this 1-50 scale, Call of Duty will kill it quicker than it already is. Everything revolves around sales and sales belong to the casuals. Don't believe me? Ask Nintendo's Wii. Although it's now slowing down in charts (I say due to units already sold and announcement of Wii U), it dominates sales world wide and gained profit off of each machine sold. It's about the profit.
