Now, I have read this board for a while. Seen the hype and hysteria. Seen the references to the Ark in the announcement trailor.
Noah's Ark they say. The best known biblical Ark to be sure. A safe haven for whatever; forrunners, humans, flood.
Now, I have always believed the nature of the Ark to be fairly obvious, to me. The Covenant, the enemies of earth, the would-be destroyers of mankind.
Who has heard of the Ark of the Covenant? Who has seen the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. An Indiana Jones film, a film about another biblical Ark. This Ark is a container, it contains the origional stone tablets upon which God himself did supposedly carve the Ten Commandments to mankind.
The subject of the film is that the Germans want to find this relic to be put to use in the war effort, objects touched by God would obviously be of immense power.
Not that the whys and wherefors matter at all. The point is that the Ark will completely destroy those who do not understand the nature of its power. Understand the Ark (of Halo), the Covenant most certainly do not. The Ark releases a great holy flame a flame that will scour the soul of all those present. This is akin to the Flame that will carry the prophets and their loyal followers into the divine beyond (according to Truth in his broadcast before the MC teleports in)
I just feel that the Ark of the Covenant is far more similar to the Ark of Halo than Noah's Ark is.
