Subject: Anyone else think melee is WAY too powerful with the TU changes?

Whenever im playing a TU game type, it seems like melees can kill you when you have almost half shields up. Damn shield bleed...

THATS MY COOL MAN I CAN'T TAKE IT OFF!

Yep.

The simple and obvious solution would have been to decrease melee damage, but that would have required too much effort on 343's part.

I don't play TU setting except for anniversary. In the Anniv. modes, the melee damage is reduced by atleast a quarter I think and there's no bleedthrough. But there is the randomness ensued by the Magnum.

It needs both.

Bungie: 'hey guys, AR melee is too prevalent, how can we fix it?'

Sane person: 'reduce melee damage, and buff AR bullet damage slightly'

Bungie: 'BREAK A CORE GAME MECHANIC THAT'S UNRELATED TO THE PROBLEM'

No

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Nope. It's fine.
Now, super weak Anniversary melee...just kidding. I have no problem with any current melee system(except default).

Where you get instead? The melee change should have happened as well. Its common sense, not a contradiction, retard.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

I agree. The melee now does nearly as much damage as a sniper bullet. If you're at red health a single punch can kill you. A much better fix would have been 75% melee strength. Bleed-through damage would still be favored, however. I would prefer it so that you would never die from a single punch as long as you still had some shields left, but the damage would still bleed through.

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

Personally, I feel like two melees should kill a fully shielded, full health spartan. I don't really have any great justification, it just feels right.

Ideally I'd like to see melee damage exactly equal to full shields, or 25% shields + full health, with bleedthrough. That way you can never kill a fully shielded player, and you need to put at least three shots into a full shields, full health player with the DMR before you can kill with a melee.

Finally, debuff melee by dramatically reducing the homing effect and lunge distance.

The two-melee kill worked in Halo 3 because nobody really needed to punch twice. The melee was not such a useful weapon back then as it is now. In Reach, the melee seems to have had a buff in, as you pointed out, the range and accuracy. I swear people will lunge ten feet to punch me when they're barely even looking at me, and that's just ridiculous.

So I think either reduce the strength while keeping the range, or reduce the range while keeping the strength. Either way, however, a Spartan shouldn't die when at full shields and at red health.

Its not my actions that define me, but under what light I'm being looked upon.

No, it works better IMO. If somebody is up close and we both melee it used to simply be an equaliser, now whoever shoots (and hits) more shots before using their melee wins.

I'd actually like to see that, to see how people react to that.
People would be sprinting at you to double beat you but fail so horribly.

I don't even touch the TU playlists if I can help it. From my experience in it, games with DMR starts result in nothing but team shooting, and AR starts become like Call Of Duty because now having the jump on someone means nothing cause they can spam pistol or shoot you twice and melee to kill you.

Wat? Team shooting is fine and you should be rewarded for getting the jump on someone.
