"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

The Precursor quotes as much.

"We are the flood. There is no difference. Until all space and time are rolled up and life is crushed in the folds . . . no end to war, grief or pain. In a hundred and one thousand centuries . . . unity again, and wisdom. Until then - Sweetness"

- Timeless One/Precursor talking to the brevet mutation Diadect and the Chakas monitor

I might be just over-analysing this guys, but when TO says "we are the Flood" could he be talking about all life? I.e. he's saying we are all potentially just Flood beings and soon will be? After all he doesn't seem to say "We, the Precursors, are the Flood".

I wouldn't be suprised if that made the ancient Humans commit suicide after interrogating the Primordial.

CoolCJ, not really. Based on the questions the diadect is asking the primordium and the responces he gave it seems that he is indicating that his kind are the flood and not all beings in general

Ah right, is it possible you coud post some snippets of the Didact and TO talking so that I can see it in context? Nothing huge, just a few sentences.

ONE gravemind is dead. And even then, we don't even know if Halo was able to completely fire. Apparently blowing up High Charity didn't do -blam!-, so maybe GM is tougher than we give him credit for.

Remember, the Forerunners had to result to mass pan-species Xenocide in order to wipe out the flood. Halo was literally the LAST thing they could come up with. Nothing else was effective. You think blowing up the Ark completely killed GM?

He might have been killed...but the flood hasnt....And his knowledge is still with flood.

That is exactly what GM is though. He isn't one mind or body. He is the "Hive mind" of the flood given voice. Once the flood reach a certain level of intelligence, a gm forms. If the flood as you say still retain the knowledge, then gm is still out there.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Are you guys getting this info from Primordium?

  • 01.03.2012 10:14 AM PDT

Didact/TOs conversation implied that a precursor is basically the next stage of a gravemind, it seems.

Also

Chakas is 343 Guilty Spark.

And that is just awesome.

Yes we are getting this information from Primordium.

And it appears based on the information avaliable that, that could be the case wazooty and it was mentioned by the admiral that the precuror wasnt one being, it was made up of multiple 'units' essentially although how many was unknown.

Nice to see that me or any of the other posters on the first page of this topic haven't returned in a while.
Anyways, to those of you saying the Gravemind/flood and the Timeless One/Precursor are one and the same and used a quote from the TO, read your quote carefully, especially the part about being the last of it's kind, at a time when the flood existed.
Unless of course you mean that they assimilated, and the TO became one with the Flood

Or he might be using the royal we, or he might be speaking as a hivemind, which that case means he's talking about whatever minds make him up or that he controls.

Wow, you are so cool for stating the obvious. Mind telling me that my shaved face looks good also?

We already knew there were several graveminds (beasturium, and the games), The halo did fire (some video on waypoint), And He wasn't entirely on HC It crashed close to the forgery for a reason.

The forerunners had to use halo do to arrogance and negligence and halo was far from the last thing they could have done. Had they paid attention from the start they could have won, shield worlds over halos would have been smarter, they could have just fixed humanity and asked for help, And if they had thought to stop fighting a secret war that would have helped also.

And any idiot with a decent attention span would have heard the gravemind say he isn't dead at the end of halo 3. The Flood forum isn't as ridiculous as this when it comes to moronically stating the obvious.

This thread is dying T_T here are my pitiful attempts to keep it going:
grey101: You have to remember that Cryptum stated that the humans purposely erased all data concerning their solution to the flood before their species-wide downgrading as an act of vindication against the Forerunners. Why would they help them, they who destroyed their culture and knowledge, to defeat an enemy they had already left them to be defeated by? (Sorry if my grammatical errors confuse any understanding)
