Subject: Why are bad players so good at throwing grenades?

I realllllllllly hate when I toss a grenade at a guy I know has taken shield damage and he walks over the thing like the freaking terminator and casually tosses a grenade at me that explodes seven feet away with the apparent force of an atomic bomb.

I have to say; that sounds extremely badass.

You don't agree, of course.

I would agree if I could master this technique. It has eluded me thus far.

I have no clue, maybe they just spam their grenades.

  • 12.28.2011 11:35 AM PDT

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

When they're only able to perform one task for over a year of a game's lifespan, I'd sure hope they'd at least be proficient at it.

Fhtagn

My thinking is, they're not good at all, but they just throw so many grenades the entire map is nuked. Also yeah, they improved their blast and decreased the jump/speed, so it can be pretty tough in some situations.

I like how frags are more like power weapons in Reach than the firecrackers they were in H3.
Lolwut

Firecrackers? You actually had to get the grenade near the other person to do any sort of damage in Halo 3. I had no problem with that. In Reach, the grenades have wonky physics where they'll bounce around at odd angles despite the fact that you banked it correctly. It detonates way too fast as well. Due to the low jump height and low movement speed, it's impossible to dodge a grenade that landed at your feet or even remotely near you.

They always keep smashing the left trigger, crossing they're fingers for a kill, probably because they cant shoot to save their life. Thats why they're so good at spamming grenukes.

Forklifts never die. They're just missing in Forge.

*pocket nukes, my good sir.

I've hated the grenades since the Beta. They either need to expand the fuse or decrease the radius. Honestly, whenever I play, I see someone back pedaling as fast as possible tossing pocket nukes. It pisses me off.

I love my ducks!

Kobe!

  • 12.28.2011 12:31 PM PDT

You know what gets me more than anything about Reach grenades? How inconsistent they are. In Halo 3, when you tossed a grenade, you KNEW exactly how it was gonna bounce and how to bank them. Reach? They'll inexplicably hit the ground and just sit there, or bounce directly back at you instead of angling off a wall correctly, or other nonsense.

  • 12.28.2011 1:34 PM PDT

I get pissed off at them all the time for everything. They hit you through walls, their fuse is too short to avoid on slow default movement speed, they bounce at weird angles, and their explosion radius will touch your shields and stop them from recharging from a mile away.

Truth. If you're good, you'll be able to avoid them. I'm godawful and even I can tilt the left thumbstick a little backward to back out of the blast radius.
Not true. If someone melees you and then throws a grenade immediately, unless you either have evade or it lands behind you and you have sprint/jetpack to move as far away as possible, dying is pretty much guaranteed every time. Try it.

It's not that they're good, its just that frags incinerate anything within a 50 ft radius when they go off, like to stick you often as if they were stickies, and most players seem to have a magical self replenishing box of nades on them at all times.

If it lands so close, they deserved to nuke you.

I never noticed any problems with unpredictable bouncing. If it's happening to you, it must be due to lag or throwing frags at non-bouncy surfaces like grass, sand, or mud.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

Everybody else's grenades are more powerful than mine are.

Also, I can never Evade away from a grenade. It'll either follow me or make me register damage as if I hadn't Evaded. Same goes with the melee.

  • 12.28.2011 3:10 PM PDT

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

When has spamming grenades ever have taken skill?

  • 12.28.2011 3:12 PM PDT

It's simple.

They get a lot of practice, say 20 deaths a game, 2 grenades a spawn, 40 thrown grenades a game minimum not counting pickups so probably closer to 50 throws a game.

Also, Halo Reach realises they're bad so it increases the grenades blast radius for them.

So thats why my grenade blast radius is so small...

You have to Evade to the side. If you Evade forward, you'll end up hitting the frag mid-flight and it will bounce of your body toward your Evade's destination.

I <3 Halo:Reach - amazingly fun and best campaign + amazing Soundtrack
I <3 Halo 3:ODST - best soundtrack + Firefight + Coastal Highway and Mombassa Streets, amazingly unique campaign.
I <3 Halo 3 - best multiplayer levels + Forge + best Custom Games + soundtrack
I <3 Halo 2 - amazing huge fun campaign + soundtrack + Fun multiplayer
I <3 Halo: CE - started it all

To be honest, I'm above the average player, but I really am -blam!- good at throwing nades. Like if I see someone walk 50 feet away from me, and they are walking to the left? I can usually send a plasma grenade right at them.

This isn't Halo:Softball though. Grenades explode too quickly for us to avoid them and the bouncing is all weird.

Halo 3 had it right.

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Because that's one of the few weapons they can get kills with..?
