R.I.P. DeathPimp. Never Ending Respect.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

With the recent creation of the Bungie Battlefield group, i've been wondering why there aren't more groups tailored to other games.

I'm personally apart of a group that plays all games [threads for each], but nothing like a MW3 group...

Now that Deej is pushing focus towards these, are you more inclined to join said groups?

Best of random chance

No, I'm not because I'd rather be in a group that discusses everything, not as biased. But if you were trying to connect and play with someone from b.net, sure.

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

I don't mind those kind of groups, I think they are a great way to find ppl to play the games you like with.

If it's a game I like, then I would definitely join. Sadly there aren't many groups like that.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Is there a Skyrim group? I'd love to join one.

Do you know about time travel?

Depends on how the group is based. If it's a game filled with many things to do and discover and people are really into the discussion I might possibly join. For example, a SKyrim group would be a group I might join because of the vast world and large number of things you can do and discover.

I have a Starcraft 2 group.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I wouldn't mind starting or joining a Gears 3 group/clan. I love playing Gears with people I know.

Take a look at the Halo forums.

That's what happens to game-focused groups.

Sad, but true.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I'm sure there are actually a lot of game related groups.

Eh, I dunno. For groups to be a more integral part of my bungie.net experience, I think there'd need to be some changes made to the way they work. I'd like groups to be more 'open' as standard (not necessarily requiring membership to view and post in) but having the ability to subscribe to certain groups (without the limit of 25) which could have some added benefits. The main reason for subscribing would be that you're basically building your own personal group 'hub' which would display recent news and activity from your subscribed groups, so it's easier to keep up with what's going on. Basically in the same way that YouTube works in that you can view, comment on and rate any videos, but subscribing to certain users allows you to keep up-to-date easily.

I'm probably going a bit far from the question you posed, so I'll leave it there.

I'd hardly call them all temporary, FCAW (and it's predecessors) have been around for a long time. Granted, we play more than one game, but the foundation of the group is Marathon and Myth. Credit for it's success should be given to the admins who've kept the fire going with regular, organized gamenights.

Game specific groups that only center on 1 game are how we all got started here. But for the group to survive past the specific game's shelf life, the group must adapt to include new games and genre, as well as a healthy tight knit member base. Otherwise it will not be around past the the time the original game it was made for has been abandon.

A game can be a catalyst for a group, but not the long term existence of it.
I'm not inclined to join any other groups for I was fortunate enough to hit the jackpot with the first one I ever joined.

  • 12.29.2011 5:21 AM PDT

If a notable one comes up for a game that I enjoy playing then I would possibly consider it but I won't go hunting for them. I prefer the groups that discuss and play a variety of things because then there is more to talk about and what not. It just seems to me that if people only played one game then it might not get necessarily boring after a while but the conversation well would dry up. Having said that I have never actually joined a one-game group so I could be wrong completely...

  • 12.29.2011 5:21 AM PDT

Well a lot of them are dead, for instance the Halo Wars RTC group. But they are a great way to find people who play the same game/s as you.

Personally, no, seeing as how the only game I own is Halo: Reach

  • 12.29.2011 8:28 AM PDT

The way I see it, if DeeJ starts creating community groups with games that I have, then hell, I'll join all of 'em. Those groups would provide me with an opportunity to play with a lot of (hopefully) friendly people.

  • 12.29.2011 8:41 AM PDT

Please don't wait for me to start these groups. Take matchmaking into your own hands. I have no magic formula for uniting nice people on the same team. It is logic I borrowed from many clans that came before mine.

Groups specific to one game might be temporary, but a group that is designed to bring friends together in a game as teammates can last for as long as new games are released. Sure, there will be attrition from game to game, but that is just part of the challenge. For over six years, I have played every shooter worth its salt with the same team. Take a look at the WorkPLace, as another example. They discuss everything under the sun, but they also project the relationships that emerge from those discussions into a number of games.

It's really academic to me. This site is home to people who play games. Many of those games enable people to play with other people. A lot of the chatter on this forum laments the way random matchmaking-provided teammates behave. Those problems are best solved by putting better teammates on your friends list, and playing with them.

The tools at Bungie.net enable you to form private club houses to cultivate whatever pastimes inspire you. The users of Bungie.net are given full control over their interactions. Thus, your experience on this website, as well as in your favorite game, are what you make of it.

I'm a bit surprised as well, especially in regards to more popular online games (such as League of Legends, not sure how well-liked it is around here though). I know of one such group that is very successful, and sees a lot of activity/community interaction.
