What is Halo 3 ODST?

I'm in the middle of Halo CEA and I have finished Halo:Reach but I was thinking about getting Halo 3 ODST if the campaign doesn't involve spoilers for any other Halo game.

So what is Halo 3 ODST exactly?

It's a side story that takes place in between 2 & 3. You'll get a few spoilers about what's going on in the Halo Universe if you play it before 2.

This is accurate, but what he doesn't mention is how good the campaign is; turn the lights off and the volume up and enjoy.

P.S. make sure you play it solo.

And Halo 3 as well. Well... yeah, play Halo 3 as well.

Cave Johnson here, we're done!

PS: If you are reading this comment while imagining my voice, don't panic. That's just a side effect of the testing.

Yes.

Also ODST and Halo 3 intersect a little bit, but nothing too major will be spoiled.

I would recommend picking it up.

This is the best way to play ODST - alone, at night with surround sound to suck you into the game. Artistically, it's definitely the best Halo.

Actually, I found the best way to play it was with a good friend, not one who would dick about during the missions. Me and my brother loved that game because, more than any other halo, it encourages teamwork on coop campaign.

I see, I've not tried it that way, the only co-op I've done on ODST has been to help friends get achievements and have a laugh. I settle down in my super srs-mode when I play the campaign, it just feels like you're supposed to be alone in the city and I like to keep that effect.

Still, no two experiences will be the same.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I like the feel of being in a deserted city, with just Covenant surrounding me, I don't see why people say ODST was bad.

You only really need to play Halo 2 first, it doesn't really spoil anything from Halo 3.

P.S. Get it, it's amazing.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

It's one of the best Halo campaigns, if not the best campaign.

Play Halo 2 then Halo 3 first, though.

Pretty much with you on this one.

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

Get earphones for the Xbox so you hear your TV sound through the Earphones. Turn it up full ball (You may go death). Then sit back and do not relax.

You may go death!? Those are some serious headphones!

Anyway, ODST doesn't contain many spoliers, and it's a great change of pace.

Same. It might not have been an adrenaline fueled roller-coaster of a game, but I loved the noir elements coupled with the take-at-your-own-pace mission structure. Some of Marty O'Donnell's best work there.

Given that Halo 2 came out a good five years before ODST, Bungie assumes that you have already played Halo 2. Of course, you should play Halo 2 anyway, the best campaign of the series in my opinion, with ODST a close second.

But yeah, something happens in the first few minutes of the game that was kind of a major plot element in Halo 2. You'll know it when you see it, it's rather obvious. Other than that, there aren't many spoilers for Halo 2 or 3, given that it's a separate story that takes place during Halo 2.

Basically ODST picks up off a big event in H2 and turns into a prelude to halo 3. Recommend playing both if you haven't already. Although it would be smarter to play ODST before 3. (Chronological order) If I were to give a rating out of 10 for ODST i'd give it (9.7/10) really good game. :)

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It's a shame that most Halo fans are complete idiots. They did not see the beauty that was ODST.

The exquisite music, the perfect atmosphere, the amazing architecture of the building, the incredibly invested character development, that alone and wonder feeling throughout the night phases.

The campaign may not be as action packed as the true installments to the franchise, but nonetheless, the whole film noire feeling and the artistic feel Bungie wanted to achieve was perfectly realized. You dont go into that game expected intense action, although there are some parts that are hard and pretty challenging and awesome, like Romeo's mission on Legendary.

Flavor the game, and if you do it correctly, you will see what makes it amazing. It's like savoring fine wine.
