Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

So I was reading through Halopedia and it claimed that Admiral Preston Cole's great grandfather served in the Rain Forest Wars, but the Rain Forest Wars took place in the 2160's. Is this a mistake or did this man live to be several hundred years old?
I think this must be a mistake...

Well, if you figure it's his great grandfather, and there's some kind of lifespan enhancer int he human populace, I wouldn't doubt they'd live to be over 100, which could account for it.

Then again, it was probably overlooked.

Well, John is biologically 40 years old now, but you have to take into consideration time spent in cryo.

Besides, males are fertile even after 70. Just sayin'.

Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men.

We should know better, because we are better.

Spend lots of time in cryo sleep and have children later in your life. That extends the generations a lot.

Haven't read Evolutions in a while so forgive me if it specifically states he fought in 2160, but it's possible there were multiple Rainforest wars, the same way there were multiple Boer wars etc.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

No idea. I cant even remember it saying anything about his grandfather.

I don't think they can enhance lifespan quite that much yet. Admiral Parangosky was 91 I believe and was grooming a successor, implying she would soon die. And the inventors of the Slipspace Drive lived for 97 years and 102 years. Impressive yes, but not any longer then people live nowadays.

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

Slipspace travel, in cryotubes. Considering his family's tradition of military service, his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all likely spent a considerable amount of time in cryo. John has spent over a decade in cryo - he is chronologically 40 but biologically 28.

That's 10 years, this guy would have had to have spent over 300 years in cryo to be Admiral Cole's great grandfather, and slipspace hasn't been around that long...

Cole was born in the year 2470. The rain forest wars began in the year 2162. Thats 308 years difference. Plenty of time for three generations and cyro storage.

This great grandfather was on his mother's side and she was not a military woman, so that eliminates one of those generations. It seems quite unlikely that anybody would be in cryo for that long. Unless perhaps he was traveling in cryo at slower then light speed, taking a very long time to get places. But humanity didn't have any distant colonies yet so that seems unlikely...
