Lolarena may be dead now but i know people still check other peoples arena rank to see what they're up against, i know alot of the forum kids i've played with do this.

Before i get started let me just say if you've gotten single digit onyx before congrats, you're good. This thread isn't meant to direct any hostility to you, or any one else. Also, i want to add that playing arena can and will make you a better player if you take it seriously and play it consistently.

Anywhozels the whole reason for this thread was due to an experience i had playing a team doubles game as a randy dandy recently.

When i got matched into the game there was a reclaimer on the other team who immediately started running his mouth, needless to say i checked his arena stats to see what i was up against and to my surprise he was onyx in every season he played and was 3% in season 8.

i put my tryhard pants on and the end results were here

The example above was just one of the many times an arena tryhard has been beaten by me.(Not saying all were single digits like that one but most were very close or under 30%)

So with that being said do you think Arena can show how good a player really is?

Discuss intelligently or flame mindlessly, your call.

tl:dr = just read it you tool.

Usually people with tons of Arena games and a placing below 5% Onyx before Season 8 are usually pretty good. From my experience, they usually provide a nice challenge.

A man is known by the company he keeps.

Yes, I do believe Arena results are a good indication on ones skill level in the competitive side of Halo. I will go so far as to say that it's the best ranking system the game has had.
Your comparison with skill level or "True Skill Level" should blend in the results of more games played and 4v4. Example: The best I have ever done, during a season, in Arena is 20% Gold. 3 times out of 10 when I face an Onyx player I will have better game stats. Your skill level is higher than mine and with a 5% Gold, I feel you have reached the Onyx level. I would then assume you are achieving 5 times out of ten you are showing better game results?
Therefore I feel Arena results area good indication.

Man, one game means nothing.
Anyway, one game means less than 1 arena season.

Though you do have a point, I've seen a lot of bad onyx players. Furthermore, I myself have appeared as a bad onyx player to many people out there. Due to bad connection or I wasn't trying or they were just better.

One game with the same guy, not one game with any onyx player.

Breaking barriers.

Arena, post season 5, began to become a poor indicator of skill because of the rampant boosting in season 7 and beyond and season 6 had such a poor population that I feel it couldn't have accurately depicted anybody's skill, players had trouble even getting rated.

In my estimation, to be considered good, you had to have had a top 1% somewhere on your record, preferably in an earlier season, but season 7 and beyond were beyond meaningless, which is why you can find players like you do.

It used to. But since none of the actual good kids are playing it anymore and the season last 3 months tons of people get single digits that are like colonels to us if we search again.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I agree; Arena is not a measure of your trueskill. I realized this when I was, for nearly every game in the last tenth of season 9, matched with/against onyxes. I've also noticed my division ranking going up in the past four days, yet I didn't play.
