Ok this was posted somewere else so i decide to post it here also unless if someone has done so alerday

ok

heres the news from a website they were talking about how halo2 was going to be the best game of all time and that other true stuff

but ONE thing that cought my eye is that you will be able to have a total of 64 PLAYERS!!!!!! by using the LAN thing and by hooking up 16!! xboxes

is this sweet or what??

heres what they said

Crazy time

Halo provokes a fanatical following, which can be seen in the number of fan websites which monitor every pixel of development of the game.

Halo 2 could support up to 64 players
"We don't feel the weight of expectation too much," said Mr Hoberman.

"Bungie has always made kick-ass games and that's what we are trying to do again.

"It's crazy around the office at the moment. But it's a lot of fun now. It's not stressful when it's so much fun."

He said at least 16 people would be able to play online.

Offline, via a local area network, he said 16 Xboxes could be linked together, hinting at the possibility of games with 64 players.

"We have 16 boxes linked together here. No-one's noticed that yet," he said.

That might just be if you want to have 1 screen each. 64 player's would LAG the system up so badly that the loading would take 2 hour's

It means all 16 players will get to have their own TV if there are 16 TVs sitting around.

There's no proof of it, but it would be cool, allthough I'd never use it :-).
I wouldn't read too much into it, as it is IMO intended to create the possibility of everyone having a whole TV-screen.

I think Hedwig said this:

Lag wouldn't be the problem, it'd be the framerate

But people are saying that the 16 player matches they have on Halo 2 are completely smooth, no studdering at all

I say we just take a "wait and see" attitude; I mean, it was Max Hoberman, Multiplayer Lead, guy up there demonstrating Halo 2 with Joe, who was saying all of this

Why would he get peoples hopes up by saying something like that?

I'm sure large scale battles will take place on XBox Live, but not for system link. It would lag too much over the lan.

The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

IGN: How many people will be able to play online.

Parsons: We're still not talking about it. Right now we've got 16 people in play. The thing we're gonna make sure of is that we have the right amount of people playing online.

Still up in the air. They have not decided how many players yet. My guess for system link will be more than 16 and less than 64

it is 16 players because in the new update fankie says this when he was talking about how halo 2 was set up at E3
Although the demo stations were set up for ten players - the game actually supports 16 - great news for LIVE, but even better - it supports 16 players for System Link too.
so whoever said 64 players is wrong

In the newest Halo 2 update, Frankie said that you could hook up 16 xboxs for sixteen players. Each with his own screen. He did not say anything about it being over 16 players so we will just have to see.

They were playing 15 on 15 CTF during the Fanfest. One of the Moderators who was there posted it earlier-- with no lag I might add. I don't know about the 64 players being a possibilty or not.

Shishka, one of the Moderators showed up afterwards to tell us everything that happened at the Fan Fest, what the prizes were and how the "Sarge" showed up in person to bug the crap out of the speaker with his voice antics.

One of their resident halo theme artists was there and she was drawing custom Halo pictures on request...

Apparently they gave away a limited edition Halo themed Xbox via raffle... Dayumn.

It's on the second last page of the thread about them "Playing Halo 2 right now"

Update: Also... just found this...

that makes absolutley no sense. you have 10 to 100 times more bandwidth between machines on a lan than WAN. And that's assuming that you have 1.5 mbps internet connection.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Well they have 4 teams now, not just Red and Blue....so....I would think they are or may have tried to get 64 people playing on a single map.

You would need a huge router that would cost you an arm and a leg. Unless you went wireless and that would cost you even more.
