So having your shot not go where your reticle is pointing at with a precision weapon is better than having it land where you're aiming? Hmmm...What?
Bloom is the dynamic expansion of the reticle.
The bullet will travel any where inside the reticle.
If the reticle "blooms" then the reticle gets bigger.
If the reticle gets bigger, the less accurate the shot maybe.
If the target does not take up the full space of the aiming reticle, then the shot may miss.
Bloom is just like spread with the exception of the reticle getting larger the faster you fire.
If you think bloom is random, then by the same though, you must think spread is random. Both, in the sense the bullet will travel anywhere inside the reticle.
But bloom and Spread ARE both random.
The only difference is when Bungie used spread it didn't affect combat at 10 feet range.
So 10 feet is a magic proportion now? Without bloom, centering the reticle over an opponent's head at long range with the magnum can still miss. It is not written anywhere that a gun is perfectly accurate according to its sights. In a video game, the degree of detail and space has been elevated to the point that pinpoint accuracy is a skill instead of a given. (Super Mario Bros fireball-->hits anything in front of you, no need to aim). Now, video games are able to recognize the subtle variations of where the bullets are going to travel, and making you bullets hit the target becomes a challenge.
Part of the challenge involves the idea that the space in the reticle occupied by the bullet becomes steadily smaller as the distance to the target increases. At ten feet, you're aiming for the side of a barn. At a distance, you need to pace your shots and recognize that the game is becoming powerful enough to MIMIC HOW A GUN ACTUALLY WORKS. I'm sorry that so many people feel that the idea of bloom has betrayed their fragile video-game sensibilities, but in-game weapons are resembling real weapons on an increasing scale, including factors such as bloom.
