2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

Those are -blam!- hilarious. I demand moar Bungie!

Ken, you deserve a cookie, also b.net won't allow me to make one. It ends up looking like this ::()

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bungie made A LOT of them. They appeared in PC gaming magazines and online. The first ad I posted generated a LOT of controversy by readers of the magazine which helped to advertise Marathon better.

I think these ads are hilarious and I would like to see Bungie use this humor more.

  • 12.30.2011 11:13 AM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

Why doesn't bungie make ads like those anymore? Those were incredible!

  • 12.30.2011 11:17 AM PDT

Those were amusing. Am I the only one that called the number in the Autopsy Ad?

EDIT: OH MY GOD I'M SO FILLING OUT THIS FORM

EDIT EDIT: -blam!-, I can't. It's located in Chicago.

No idea, but bungie.com now redirects to bungie.net

Also, I'm so filling out that form. I also want to see where that number gets me.

It has this thing called the "Marathon Scrapbook" with things like it. One of the pictures is of a Bungie employee throwing up from motion sickness cause he played Marathon too long, LOL.

But, I also look around. Most of these were from really old magazines and provided by Bungie employees to some people who scanned them.

You can find out much of this by going to Archive.org and looking at all the old versions of Bungie.net.

The web site for Bungie started out around 1996 as Bungie.com. People could go here to find out about Marathon and other bungie games.

Anyway, when we released the game Myth, people had several ways they could play online, TCP/IP, AppleTalk, etc. However, if they wanted to browse for games to play, there was an online service in-game called Bungienet. A companion to that was a web site called bungie.net where people could go to set up their accounts, check out ranks and orders, and get the latest news and updates about playing Myth online.

In light of this, Bungie.net became a far more popular site with quite a bit more traffic than bungie.com ever did. Years later, after the release of Halo 2 and Xbox Live, we finally rolled up all our old web sites (bungie.com, support.bungie.com, seventhcolumn.bungie.net, truth and reconciliation, the myth vault, etc.) into one single site: Bungie.net.

Dang, they've been using Bank Gothic for their typography way back then.

They are pretty old ads and many people here only know about Halo. Marathon was a classic Bungie game and was popular for it's time in PC gaming when it was in it's infancy.

But, these ads are really cool and Bungie should keep doing cool stuff like this.

Something to remember, I believed they were allowed to do those is because they were entirely independent. I have a feeling that Microsoft wouldn't have allowed adds like that, which is why they didn't do it for Halo. Now that they are their own company, they can probably do this again.

Yeah, I hope with new freedom means cooler stuff like that. it is funny to see how crazy Bungie was back then. Those ads were genius.

Wait, what? Activision doesn't own Bungie, just distributing them essentially.
