These are fantastic! I must say, though, that after viewing these ads, hot dogs will never be the same...

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I guess when you go to Bungie studios, be careful if you get the "mystery meat".

becuase the background doesn't move and it looks weird. It is like moving 3-D and part of the world is 2-D at the same time.

it looks weird at first.

I find these adds really funny with there dark humor, and I also find it funny that I am playing through all of marathon at the moment too. So its cool to see the ads that where put out for it

  • 12.30.2011 2:12 PM PDT

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Something to remember, I believed they were allowed to do those is because they were entirely independent. I have a feeling that Microsoft wouldn't have allowed adds like that, which is why they didn't do it for Halo. Now that they are their own company, they can probably do this again.

What Activision said about No Russian?

Wait, what? Activision doesn't own Bungie, just distributing them essentially.
I know, I'm just curious. Has Activision, as a publisher, some kind of control over marketing?

Probably. But, Bungie in this is the boss, so they can still have a lot more influence than before.

Yeah, Marathon was a HUGE game in the late 90's. It was widely popular among Mac gamers.

You can find out much of this by going to Archive.org and looking at all the old versions of Bungie.net.
The web site for Bungie started out around 1996 as Bungie.com. People could go here to find out about Marathon and other bungie games.

Anyway, when we released the game Myth, people had several ways they could play online, TCP/IP, AppleTalk, etc. However, if they wanted to browse for games to play, there was an online service in-game called Bungienet. A companion to that was a web site called bungie.net where people could go to set up their accounts, check out ranks and orders, and get the latest news and updates about playing Myth online.

In light of this, Bungie.net became a far more popular site with quite a bit more traffic than bungie.com ever did. Years later, after the release of Halo 2 and Xbox Live, we finally rolled up all our old web sites (bungie.com, support.bungie.com, seventhcolumn.bungie.net, truth and reconciliation, the myth vault, etc.) into one single site: Bungie.net.

Microsoft intervention and not making more Marathon titles. Still think it was genius advertising.

I have vague memories of seeing these adds before...

It was a very long time ago mind you.

Can't remember if I saw them on the net or in some now forgotten pc/gaming rag.

Cheers for digging it up and airing it out amigo! :D

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Thinking about it now, there could have been some terrific dark humour ads, such as the ones you shown, Ken, during Halo's marketing campaign...

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.
