Ok while watching the trailer I noticed something that will drastically change Halo 3. At precisely 1:43 part of the cliff in front of Masterchief falls off. You may be thinking what does this have to do with a change so I'll point it out. When the cliff falls Chief backs up advisedly to avoid falling off the cliff. If fall damage was still off like in Halo 2, he wouldn't have to worry about falling, but instead he backs up to avoid falling. So I have concluded that fall damage has been added to Halo 3. Please share why you agree with me because by no means should anyone disagree with this post. Thank you and please stay drug and alcohol free. And please use condoms.

I noticed this too, looks like this trailer may have more things in it reminiscent of Halo 1 than we thought. :P

I know Bungie did that to show the brilliant thinkers, such as myself, that they are putting fall damage back in.

I don't know, sure I guess it could equal bungie putting fall damage back in but I think it was in there just to add to the scene, make it life like and real.

  • 05.10.2006 8:46 PM PDT

Oooooor, that MC like any other normal person backs up when the ground you are standing on falls away? Thousands of feet down?

You die in Halo 2 when you fall more than the levels allow. It's realistic, not a "sign."

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

What?! It is a trailer! Who falls off a cliff in a trailer? And even in Halo 2 there was fall damage. In the campaign if you fall off of a cliff that is too high up and you're not supposed to be there, you die.

or, hard as it is to believe, Master chief does not want to fall off a -blam!- cliff because he would die, falling damage or not, just as if you jumped off a VERY steep cliff in Halo 2, and because it would make no -blam!- sense for him to stand there and fall like a thousand feet.

  • 05.10.2006 8:46 PM PDT

I say it just is a video, he was just stepping back to avoid falling, and being crushed to oblivion.

...You've gotta be kidding me right. You arn't THAT retarded. Even if it was the case, in Halo 2 there was fall damage. Ever heard of falling on the bridge in Mombasada and dieing. I did. OR faling on the Sacrad Icon, which has no death barrier.

In case none of you noticed, in Halo Campaign you die if you drop a significant distance. However, in multi-player, you live forever ^.^

oh my....well, thats sort of dumb, becuase if u think about it, in halo bungie only let you fall to certin places the rest had a kill zone, the reason he was backing up i simply for realism, just my thoughts, i meen, if he didnt back up from a masive falling cliff it would be weird. Just adds to realism.

Wow, you guys are trying too hard...he definitely backs up 1. because he doesn't wanna get crushed between the rocks, 2. for dramatic effect, 3. when ground falls out in front of you, you naturally move away from the big hole in the ground.

I dont think the features of the game relate to that movie its not actual gameplay.

Yea i agree with TheAdmiral...this vid is just a preview to the whole plot and the fact that there's another Halo game in the works. Seriously folks, think if u were standing on a sheer cliff and a hugungous chunk starts falling away, wtf would u do- of course you would move ya moron!

Yep I'm hoping that they implement a lot of things from Halo CE. Namely Dick Trickle active camo.

I think the point of fall damage is you get injured, not killed, by falling, of course you'd die from falling off a tall structure, the difference between Halo 1 and 2 as far as I see, is you have health bars in 1, whereas in 2, once you're shield regenerates, apparently so does your life, therefore fall damage in 2 is completely pointless, as the health returns 10 seconds later, in 1, you fall once and lose lots of health, fall again, and you die, whippee... I'd guess they health bars might be reintroduced, as you could never tell when exactly you'd die onec your shield was down.

yeah you guys are dumb. its a TRAILER they arent going to show master chief falling off the cliff in a trailer. it would ruin the whole thing! so obviously that has nothing to do with how h3 will be fall damage wise.

theyre just trying to make it look real. I dont think the cheif is thinking "well i dont give a damn if i fall, i wont hurt me." Stop overthinking things

That has to be one of the stupidest things I have heard in a while.....and trust me I've heard my share. How could you possibly think that is why he backs up? The cliff is breaking away in front of him OF COURSE HE IS GOING TO BACK UP! Besides, it's a trailer they will hint at plot in a trailer, but not something like fall damage. People need to stop looking for clues about Halo 3 in the stupidest places and just enjoy the fact that Bungie gave us a great trailer.

The fall damage was only in the multiplayer. And who wants to fall off a cliff even if you could survive it. Plus he wanted a better view of the show :)

How can you guys disagree? If you were an armored superbeing and knew you could survive the fall without a scratch you know you would fall. I know that thought had to be going through Chiefs brain. When he remembered fall damage he backed up fearing for his life. It is obvious people. Come on now.
