1. Marines are vulnerable but offer great supporting fire. Don't fight with them however, using them as bait actually keeps them alive longer; fight a few feet away from Marines so you can use grenades and trap Covenant.

2. Use every weapon. The Pistol will lose its usefulness in Legendary; the Assault Rifle has proved much more effective. Try to fire the Needler as quickly and as constantly as possible, then follow this by throwing grenades. Be careful not to waste rockets or sniper ammunition.

3. The Tank sucks. Sluggish with a main cannon that takes too long to reload and a secondary gun that has dodgy accuracy, and your Marines are extremely vulnerable. The Warthog is fast, has an awesome chain gun and has the perfect seat for a Sniper Marine.

4. Keep Marines off Ghosts. If you want to keep them alive that is.

5. Red Elites are the toughest enemies in Legendary. Hunters are laughable foes, Grunts are bastards in packs, as are Jackals, Platinum Elites rarely hit you with their swords (but are more deadly when using a Plasma Rifle and active camo), Blue Elites are cannon fodder, Gold Elites are insane, and Red Elites are mass murderers; the fact that the Chief needs to let his shields recharge poses as a huge advantage for the Red Elites as they can slaughter you or simply let their shields recharge which are seemingly untouchable. An Assault Rifle is a good weapon for engaging a single Red Elite up close.

6. Wraiths are demons. Enough said.

7. Melee melee melee melee melee.

8. Harmless when armless. If a Flood Combat Form has no arms don't bother killing them; it's a waste of ammo. Plus you can use them as cannon fodder.

Jimmy, you were right on your point exept these two...ill add my own tips since ive played through this game on legendary for sport.

1. Weapons.

Use the Plasma Pistol and Human Pistol allot...Overcharge Plasma pistol, fire, switch to human pistol and nail a headshot. This will make short work of any elite and jackal providing you can hit them( easily done once you get a feel for how they move). ALWAYS carry a human pistol, with the exeption of other parts of the game. mainly the vehicle sections. There you can carry a shotgun/sniper/rocket launcher in any combo. But it mainly depends on what your up against. The Human Pistol is an awsome weapon on Legendary, though Yes its less effective than the lower difficulties, so is everything else. The pistol lets you get headshots on grunts, elites once there shields are gone, shoot the open part in jackal shields, kill hunters in one hit, explote carrier flood forms in 3-4 shots, and has awsome range. Use the Rocket launcher ASAP on the flood levels then ditch it for a shotgun or a pistol. Sniper is awsome on just about all the levels its on if you are a crackshot with it.

Grenades

Use plasma grenades often, Frags when an ideal opportunity presents itself such as large groups of flood or covenant, or you just in a tight spot, but be conservative with frags. There is a fine line of balance on how many grenades you throw to how many you can pick up. Being OUT of them sucks...so you dont want that. But once again at the same time use them. In general, use 1 grenade to soften up or kill a group of enemies. 2 if its a larger group.

Vehicles;

The main thing here is to have a marine sniper in the passanger seat somewhere...it makes a HUGE amount of difference in a warthog. Its like trippling your firepower. The warthog is only really a good offensive tool if you have a gunner and a sniper riding shotgun. This is also assuming you know how to drive. The Ghost? unless you just using it to get from point A to point B, stay off of it. Pathetic firepower and armor, and low accuracy doesnt make for a good ride. You can skip entire groups of enemies with this though if you just blast right by them. The Tank; Stay back and blast the hell out of anything at longe range (if you see it, get somewhere high and shell the crap out of it until you hit it even if its 200 yards away. which is about max scoping distance with a sniper rifle at x10 zoom) then go in with the tank. It helps wonders if you have a marine sniper and a boatload of Assault rifle using marines on it too. Just watch out for fuel rod cannons and grunts will throw grenades onto the tank...not fun.

General stratagie with vehicles:
Stay back and kill everything you can before you go in, and make sure to get a marine sniper in shotgun with you.

Indivigual weapons (Sp?)

Assault Rifle:- good for grunt work, infection forms, and a OK substitute for a shotgun if fired at full auto into somethings chest but only on covenant, then followed up with a melee attack.

Sniper Rifle:- if you can shoot this accurately without the scope, this is your best friend. Best used against only elites and the occasional hunter if you must...Picking off annoying jackals with it is OK ONLY if you dont have any other option. Basically use it for what it was desighned for. But hang onto it if you are good enough.

Shotgun:- Blasts through everything at close range...gold elites (the ones WITHOUT an energy sword), hunters in the back, jackals, flood, you name it. Shove this thing in there chest and pull the trigger. Even works against banshees and smaller vehicles if youre close enough, exept the wraith. You want to have one of these whenever the game lets you.

Human Pistol:- Basically its a more flexible sniper rifle. Use it for headshots on everything and picking away at longe range targets. Use it with a overcharged plasma pistol and you have jackal and elite stue.(spellling once again)

Rocket Launcher:- Use it on vehicles, large groups of enemies, and mass ammounts of flood combat forms. Dont bother with a hunter , its a waste of ammo if you have a pistol or shotgun. even sniper rifle.

Covenant guns

Use the needler on elites in tight spaces when you have to, it kills them quick. But dont use it when they can dodge the needles.

Use the Plasma pistols melee attack, overcharged blast on shielded enemies, and fire it quickly and follow up with a melee attack against grunts and jackals.

If you want me to do ingivigual enemies, i will. just let me know. Anything you have as far as questions go, i can awsnser when it comes to playing this game on Legendary. And i have no problems typing it up.

Thanks to the help i finshed the seconed level which only leaves 4 more levels to keep the work up

if you finished 2 levels, you have 8 to go not 4.

anyways here are some tips:

- use Assault Rifles in close to mid range, use shotguns for close range, use sniper for realy far range (but if you wana or forced to use the sniper rifle at close range, then try not to scope, it will clog up your field of view), pistol for mid to medium far range, and rockets for baddies whom you find annoying, and frustrating to kill with any other weapons. also use the rocket for vehicles.

- keep your comrades alive. although theyre very weak and dumb, theyre good supporters. ive survived loads of times with the help of only 3 marines once. o.O

- always keep track of your ammunition. if your running out of ammo, go hunt for more (but dont go too far, or you might get lost), or pick up another weapon thats lying around.

- reload after a fire-fight. you dont want to charge in to another battle with only 15 bullets in your Assault Rifle clip, now would you? reloading in the start of battle could mean your life.

thats it for now, ill post more tips later on, im tired... *yawns*

hope those helped ;)

Keep at least a plasma rifle or pistol in your weapons stock. They covenant weapons work best against them. One important thing to remember when facing enemies is plasma tears through armor and sheilds faster but bullets tear ass through the skin. Duck and cover all the time too. If your sheilds are low check your ammo and wait for the sheilds to recharge;when your blasting away at a zealot elite (the golden ones) it's really easy to forget how much rounds you have left in your clip. I also use side stepping a lot. When your close to the enemy sidestep, melee, repeat. Save the nades and power weapons too. I've only managed to do the first level on legendary so far. The level Halo is a -blam!- on legendary and so is the T&R and the library.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

there are two ways to approach legendary, one would be to avoid battle where possible and conserve your ammo/survive longer. the other would be the hard core way, fight your way through every poor bastard that stumbles into your path. the first option makes the game faster and far easier but there are some points were you simply can't progress without clearing all enemies. the second option, in my humble opinion, is more fullfilling.

either way you choose, always make sure your weapon has at least 60% it's max ammo capacity, if you below that, change weapons or take a break to locate more ammo. always aim for the head, that way you lose less ammo. vehicular kills are both satisfying and great ways to conserve ammo. don't use rockets/grenades on single enemies, save them for large groups or vehicles. and proboably the most usefull tip, stealth, stealth, STEALTH!!! puniching someone in the back or sticking an enemy in a large group of enemies is a far better war to fight then letting enemy get the drop on you.

What everybody else said and here are my two little pieces of advice:

When you've got full health and a good stock of weapons and you hit a checkpoint, Save and quit and then start again. Then, if you get in a bad spot later on you can quit without saving and go back to that point.

It's not a bad idea after you've cleared an area to go around and pick up and drop some of the weapons once or twice. Then, they are less likely to dissappear and you can come back to restock.

mine are:

1. don't die
2. use the right weapon for the right enemy
3. the plasma pistol is the most versatile weapon in the game: it can effectively kill every enemy
4. by leaving one weapon at the entracne to a room, you can effectively have more than 2.

Halo's a hell of a drug.

Use the noob combo on Elites (plasma pistol then human pistol) and always you the reload cheat so that you never have to look for ammo as often. If you don't know the ammo reload cheat here it is:

You need to have 3 weapons (one will be on the ground)
The weapon you need to reload, click reload, but then quickly switch it out for the weapon on the ground.
Wait for the reload sound (2-3 seconds to be safe)
Then pick it up and now you have a reloaded weapon without losing ammo. Works great for rockets and sniper rifle.

The best way to surive is to keeps with your allies and make note of where they are at all times, never run away from a battle against insane amounts of flood with your marines still fighting because the chances are you will catch most of the fire, melle and stuff and not the marines so its easier to come out with 3/5 marines and red health bar than full health bar and no marines always! on flood levels its so easy to get ambushed so keep the marines with you find as many as possible keep Sarge alive at all costs he is the best sniper and AR marine ever. If you have no marine support then just keep stock of grenades always have one of each grenade. If you have grenades and a AR then you can throw the grenades over the top of the enemy and kill the big elites that are always waiting at the back and then AR the grunts, jackles and use hand to hand combat with the jackles if possible.
If you always find yourself walking in the correct direction but there are no enemies to be found keep a pistol and shotty with you there are bouned to be hunters waiting.

most of the useful tips r covered, but in levels like assult on the control room (which is hell on lengendary) there r heaps of hunters. if u dont want 2 waste 2 much ammo on them, then use ur pistol. there is a spot on there back which is a one shot KO.

Ditch the Pistol, get good with the needler (really good gun if u know how to use it.). Best thing i've ever done and i've been playing Halo: Combat Evolved since its release date. Or have the plasma pistol and assault rifle. That's me though

About that, you can kill them at any orange fleshy spot on their body. Pistol to the neck, stomach, and back. Or you can use the sniper rifle. Pretty soon, you can kill two hunter just by meleeing. It's easy, i can do it.

When a hunter charges you, have a pistol handy i guess. Anyways, move backwards as soon as they are in range to hit u. Their shield is out of the way when he lifts his shield to hit you. Pop him right in the stomach. One hit, KO!

These are the best weapons the game has to offer on Legendary, learn to use them effectively.

Watch out for the black and gold elites. Those guys are the toughest in the game.

On Legendary... lets see. Until you meet the flood use the noob combo. The plasma pistol in Halo:CE actually deals out more damage than the plasma rifle and has overcharge too.

Practice using stickies. Sticking elites first time is essential to getting through the levels in one piece.

Marines are only good in large numbers.. Or if they have a sniper rifle or or on the warthog turret.

Might have to play some Halo:CE now, Halo2 campaign sucks balls compared to Halo:CE campaign.

Yup...and the Needler is not a "kill em all" weapon...good on setting off grenade clusters and killing elites in confined spaces...other than that dont use it.

And Assault on the Control Room is not that bad...I've beaten it in 42 minutes the "Honerable" way.

Oh yes theres also a reloading technique called "pocket reloading". I exactly forgot how you do it but its a trick when you're still reloading even though you can be holding another weapon and blasting away at the enemies faces. Note:Doesn't work with M90 Shotgun, still testing with SPNKr Rocket and MA5B Assault Rifle. Definately works with M6D Pistol.

Never argue with idiots. They force you down to their level, then win because of experience.

Shadowrun=Halo 1>Halo 3>Halo 2>Gears of War>Nothing.

Don't be a scrub. Play to win.

Just some general advice: Play smarter, not harder. Getting through Halo on legendary is nearly impossible to do without using your intelligence. Unless your Chuck Norris.
