Did anyone else see the city behind that huge machine in the Earth twords the end of the trailer it almost looks like you can see the ruins of the bridge in New Mombasa that you cross in halo 2 campaign. Also i think that the beaam that comes out of the machine shoots through that worm hole thing and kinda "transports" somewhere else like to the remaining rings to activate them or perhaps the machine is only one of several that are needed to activate the Ark?

Any Thoughts?

if this has already been brought up im sorry for re posting.

"Sure. I can't move a rock with my mind, but, boy, can I make that rock think it's been moved."
―Corran Horn

The city itself has been discussed - it is the remains of New Mombasa. The transportation is a new idea as far as I've seen, though. Personally, I think we're seeing something activating the Ark, and not the Ark itself. I think it possible that the moon is our Ark. It works with a lot of details in the trailer, but I admit it doesn't have as much of a "Bungie" feel to it as a lot of other theories.

Yep. New Mombasa got blown up in Halo 2, and MC revisits it in Halo 3, makes perfect sense. That's why the Covenant blew it up to begin with, because the Ark is underneath!

I think the beam comming from the machine is somehow activating the remaining rings or the Ark by using the big hole in the sky as a kind of worm hole.

It's very possible. "The Ark" name suggests some sort of journey (obviously taken from the Bible one), or some "vessel" of transportation - of salvation.

I had two possible interpretations of the trailer, one of which was that to a degree. Remember that Bungie has said the Spartan in Dead or Alive 4 went back in time - I think the Ark is a time machine. I think that the Covenant destroy Earth and the Master Chief goes back in time and saves it - which would also make sense with Cortana saying "this is the way the world ends", because obviously they've seen that this is the ending. This also ties in with the line "I know you - your past, your future".

The other interpretation was that Cortana has gone rampant with the gravemind and that the trailer is a vision/prophecy/dream that Cortana is showing the Master Chief - in other words she is telling him that this is how the world ends, but he doesn't accept that and goes and save the world. My two thoughts.

that seems possible to me especially if Cortana is somehow controlled by gravemind now.

That was the clouds seperating to allow the beam from the Ark to enter space to tell te rest of the Halos that its time to pulse again.

^^^^ Hell of a theory... the best ive heard yet. it all makes sense. I had a similar theory that the explosion is a ship, not a signal or anything like that, and is travelling somewhere, but where? I think its to wherever the covenant find salvation, hence it being called the ark. and also, it could very well be a time machine, do you recall the words of cortana "i know you, your past, and your future"? either that, or cortana has fused with gravemind, and those words seem pretty worthy of his character. Remember in halo 2 when gravemind said something to the effect of him knowing everything that has been going on, and he knows what everyone's objective is, like some kind of eaves dropper? evidently, cortana knows something, and gravemind has known many things, so therefore they could possibly be one character with similar characteristics. Man do i love theorizing about games, only bungie can deliver such suspense BEFORE the game is out!!

Thanxx ive gotta admit it does make alot of sense when you think about in especially if there are more of those structures, cuz an item such as the Ark must require alot of power.or i could be wrong.
