Subject: Betrayal Booting is Garbage

Hello. Reach is the first Halo game I have played and my style is mostly recreational.

It's been said a bunch already but today I noticed an exponentially higher booting rate. I didn't have much play time today, logged about an hour and played 6 matchmaking games. But as fate would have it only 4 counted.

Yeah, I got booted out of 2 games.

And both games I was leading the game too, 20+ kills when I got booted out. The rest of the team had an average of about 8.

The first was when I threw a plasma on the ground and killed an enemy... but also took out a teammate who wanted to melee in a DMR match. Tried to apologize to the little -blam!- but he didn't have his mic on. Oh well.

Second time was on another DMR slayer on a different map, picked up the rockets and fired at a hostile, all of a sudden this teammate drops out of nowhere and once again tries to melee the enemy in a DMR match. Black screen o' death shows up 3 seconds later.

I'm not here to complain, hell knows I couldn't care less about a Halo match. The few times I play are just to get a good game and have a good time.

I just want to know what you folks think of these 2 cases. Both were kids who didn't turn on their mics and booted without a second thought to the situation they were betrayed in.

Which brings me to my only request. If Halo 4 is going to have a betrayal-booting system, implement a damn killcam. Maybe just for betrayals but for all deaths would be fine too. That way every betrayed person can tell if the betrayer was being a dick on purpose or was trying to help the team out and they just accidentally stepped into the crossfire.

Sigh, I keep falling into the trap of threads like these.

Here, for the 100th time

wrong forum, plus bungie is no longer in control of halo

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Everybody knows that the best way of winning a DMR (or any other match save for Energy Sword/Gavity Hammer/Shotgun) is by melee-ing.

Doesn't make me at fault and up for a boot for throwing a grenade...

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Solution: Play with your friends.

I do feel for you there, Ping, this is the sort of thing that happens in a largely unstructured environment.

With luck, whomever is putting together the next episode of Halo might do something to remedy this.

Either an after action review of what happened to a player during the countdown, or no friendly fire at all, which is random and annoyingly inconsistent in any case.

This is to say nothing of active saboteurs. I wonder just how many players have dealt with the following: you are engaged with hostiles, maneuvering and putting fire on them, when suddenly you are taking hits. Trying to evade, you turn to see a guy dressed in the same uniform trying to kill you.

Happened to me with "TangyTunic82251".

I evaded him once, got a first aid kit, thinking his actions were in error, when moments later, he ambushes me again in the same manner. So I stuck him with a grenade.

Happened twice more, so I defended myself, then got booted. Could not say it was a surprise.

What got me irritated was the voice message he sent, in effect: "Haha! You fell into my trap, stupid!"

Honestly, what is the real point in playing when the game is infested with clowns, idiots, cheaters and dirty players like that? Is their ordinary life really that miserable they have to resort to that level of rank pettiness to make themselves feel good?

I spend most of my time in Firefight, as multiplayer is simply not enjoyable a majority of the time.

The other issue, is xbox has no means of complaining against backstabbers or dirty players, beyond that useless general purpose "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" rating.

I doubt they pay it any mind, really, but imagine if they did. I would think the entire landscape in gaming would improve if players knew they risked censure, or even getting banned if they jerked people around one time too many.

So I will call that fool out here.

Conversely, if players knew they could earn bonuses or some other incentive for being good sportsmen . . . the system would begin policing itself.

Yet, considering that most have the attitude "It's the internet, I can be a prick if I want!" because no one taught them any manners and there are no real consequences for bad behavior, I do not believe it will improve.

Remember the "Chocolate Milk Kid"?

During the summer, there was a fluff report on Yahoo! about a guy who, after getting hounded and killed relentlessly by his obnoxious 14-year-old neighbor, actually went over and throttled the boy.

Ordinarily, I would frown upon such things . . . but who here could really disagree the little weasel had it coming?

It would be nice if there was an 18+ adult playing arena, for players who want to compete honestly with teamwork and have a good time.

Too many 14-year-old thumb monkies playing "R" rated games ruins the fun.

Though as Dennis Miller says: "But that's just my opinion . . . I could be wrong."

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

You're stereotyping the underage population with that statement though. I've seen my fair share of 18+ year olds be utter pricks in games like Halo and Call of Duty, so age is not a determining factor in the behavior of the offending individual, it's a matter of maturity.

I've also met 12 year olds with more maturity than some of the supposedly mature adults that play this games, the fact is, there will always be an annoying player who sets out to make other people lose or bother them as a way of entertaining him/herself.

Just my two cents.

the one who jokes to much

Could you cry anymore, it's a damn game.

P.S. Bungie doesn't control Halo anymore even if they did this is still the wrong forum.

I reckon your thoughts are worth far more than two cents.

Of course, you are correct, Sir, everyone has seen examples of both. I have dealt with quite a few thumb monkies, many young, some older, all together no fun to be around. Especially when they tend to be dirty players. You may be inclined to agree, that taken as a whole, this sub-culture brings the gaming community down to the lowest common denominator, regardless of the efforts of good players.

As one example, I tried Black Ops once. No fun when, as a Veteran, I know how to shoot and maneuver, yet got trounced by idiots jumping around like it was Halo. Same with Battlefield, yet they brag how they are the most realistic. Not from my experience, when I have to do a mag dump into a hostile with an M16A4 at less than ten meters to take him out.

5.56 has its faults, but it is a lot more effective than THAT. Even from an M4 carbine.

I feel the only credible Infantry combat simulator is ArmA, but I am not in a position to play that.

At least here, I mostly know what to expect, so it is my own fault if I get blasted. Still frustrating, as I am only a man with an ego like everyone else.

I doubt there is any real solution available, other than playing exclusively with friends, which I have taken to as often as possible.

At least the community is large enough that ne'er do wells can be avoided with minimal difficulty. I just happen to be of the belief that it should not be necessary at all.

Again, just my opinion . . . I could be wrong.

I know where you're coming from, I too, have encountered a lot of guys that make Call of Duty seem like Halo and vice versa, and I take it as my responsibility to troll the heck out of them just to give them a taste of their own medicine. Like this guy I met while playing Living Dead on Pinnacle. The dude was obsessed with K/D and kept betraying me (mind you, it was a couple of days after the boot option was disabled) and so, he kept killing me time and time again, trying to get a reaction out of me.

I simply laughed and shot him after the (probably, cannot really remember) 20th betrayal, he died and was promptly infected before rage quitting. The fact that the guy spent so much time trying to get a negative reaction out of me, not actually focusing on the game was a proof of how low the behavior of online gaming has dropped. Whereas some years ago one played to win a game while having fun, now most people just care about annoying others, effectively ruining both theirs and their victims gaming experiences.

I would suggest playing Crysis 2 (In my brief time playing) I didn't stumble across any griefer of any sorts, besides, the gameplay is a mix between Halo and Call of Duty, so you should feel a little familiarity. By any means, feel free to add me as a friend if you ever feel like playing some Halo: Reach or Anniversary (although with the coding used in that game, our gaming time would be less than pleasant due to the massive delay in campaign), or pretty much any other game.

My gamertag is o 055 o (the one in the middle is a zero, the other two are o's) and I look forward to playing with you.

And same could be said about your opinion, it's definitely more than two cents.
